Monday, 29 April 2024

Held on 23 March, the first StartMe Up Project for Inclusion organised by the Career Centre of the Office of Student Affairs was a showcase of the students’ innovation in disability inclusion. The four winning teams were each awarded a start-up fund of HK$20,000 and paired with professional business mentors for a one-year guidance service to help them establish clear project development directions.

Some leaders of the participating teams were SEN students, including physical disabilities and dyslexia. Despite facing all challenges, they led the team in developing innovative solutions that address societal challenges related to disability inclusion.

The winning projects include KOMPASS, developed by Daniel Chan and Simon Ng, students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and the School of Business respectively. KOMPASS is dedicated to empowering individuals with special educational needs (SEN) by offering them skill enhancement opportunities and nurturing their self-confidence. Another winning start-up, SignSculpt founded by Charlotte Li and Jessica Udemezue, students from the Academy of Visual Arts, along with Tai Yee-tung, a student from the School of Business, is an agency offering sign language interpretation services.

The other two projects are ReLive and HumanTechHK. Created by Huang Miaoheng and Zeng Jingjing, students from the School of Communication, ReLive offers live streaming courses and marketing consultations, empowering individuals with disabilities to generate income through live streaming sales and showcase their talent. HumanTechHK is an online social sharing platform for SEN students founded by Chin Lok-yin and Jevons Chan Kwing-tung, students from the School of Continuing Education.
