Members of LEWI and IIBD gathered at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) for the executive committee meeting on 29 February 2008 . The one-day meeting was attended by representatives from Baylor University , Keimyung University , Lund University , Assumption University (IIBD member), Sun Yat-sen University and HKBU.
The meeting was divided into three sessions – one on LEWI business, one on IIBD business, and one on joint business. At the LEWI session, members discussed important issues concerning the future development of the Institute. Members decided that a thematic approach is the right strategy to move LEWI forward and working groups will be formed to work out the themes to be adopted. For details about the thematic approach, please see the discussion paper sent to members in mid-January. Prof. Ah Chung Tsoi, director of LEWI, will soon write a letter to the presidents of University of the Executive Committee members inviting them to nominate academics in their own institution who would participate in the working group.
At the joint session held in the afternoon, progress of the 2008 conference on “Innovation and Entrepreneurship” was reported and members discussed the program rundown, publicity and other arrangements of the conference. As for the 2009 conference on “ Chinatown and Beyond”, members deliberated the proposal prepared by Dr. Nello Angerilli, Associate Vice President of Simon Fraser University and Chair pro tem of the conference. Fruitful discussion was made and it is expected that a call-for-papers will be ready for comments by May 2008.
Detailed minutes of the meeting are being prepared by the secretariat and will be available to members soon.
