Regulations

FOREWORD  

The Regulations governing the use of Wai Hang Sports Centre (WHS) and Dr. Stephen Hui Sports Hall (SHS) (hereinafter referred to as "the Sports Facilities") aim to serve as a general guide and source of information to all users whilst using the Sports Facilities.

The Regulations governing the use of the Sports Facilities are posted at the entrance of the WHS. The English version of the regulations can be accessed from the University World Wide Web/Gopher Services.

The University reserves the rights to modify, revoke, or add to such regulations when necessary. However, written notices concerning the above will be posted at the entrances of the Sports Facilities.

1. General Regulations
1.1 Opening Hours
1.1.1 The Sports Facilities will be open on the following days:
Monday to Saturday 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Saturday 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Sunday 12:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Public holiday (please refer to Para. 1.1.2) 10:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
1.1.2 The Sports Facilities will be closed on public holidays except seven public holidays which will be announced by the Management of Sports Facilities (hereinafter referred to as the "Management") in September each year.
1.1.3 Users must leave the Sports Facilities at closing time.
1.1 4 The Management shall close any part of the facilities if, in its opinion, the facilities at any time are not fit for use or for any reasons, e.g. bad weather.
1.2 Eligible Users
The following categories of users may use the Sports Facilities, provided that they possess a valid Hong Kong Baptist University I. D. Cards or a Sports Centre User Card when entering the sports centres.
1.2.1

UGC Funded Programme (Full-time and Part-time students.

Each may bring one guest at any one time to use the sports facilities.

1.2.2 Full-time students of the School of Continuing Education and School of International Education of the Hong Kong Baptist University. Each may bring one guest at any one time to use the sports facilities.
1.2.3 Full-time staff. Each may bring three guests at any one time to use the Sports facilities.
1.2.4 University Honorary Associates. Each may bring three guests at any one time to use the sports facilities.
1.2.5 Members of Courts and the Council. Each may bring three guests at any one time to use the sports facilities.
1.2.6 Holders of Staff Dependent Card. (Dependents under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or an eligible user aged 18 or above when using the sports facilities). They are not allowed to bring any guests to the sports facilities.
1.2.7 Part-time staff. They are eligible to use the Sports Facilities on Sundays and public holidays as specified in Paragraph 1.1.2 and on Saturdays in June, July and August of each year. They are not allowed to bring any guests to the sports facilities.
1.2.8 Part-time students of the School of Continuing Education and Non-UGC funded of the Hong Kong Baptist University who have enrolled in award programmes at Bachelor degrees or above level.  They may apply for a Sports Centre User Card. Holders of valid Sports Centre User Cards may use the sports facilities on Saturdays and Sundays during opening hours.  They may also use the sports facilities on those public holidays specified in Paragraph 1.1.2.  They may bring one guest at any one time to use the sports facilities.
1.2.9  Alumni
a) Alumni are eligible to apply for a Sports Centre User Card.
b) Alumni with a valid user card may use the Sports Facilities on Saturdays and Sundays during opening hours. They may also use the Sports Facilities on those public holidays specified in Paragraph 1.1.2.
c) Booking procedures and charges of the Sports Facilities will be the same as those for full-time staff.
d) Alumni may bring a maximum of three guests at any one time to use the Sports Facilities.
1.2.10  Members of Century Club
a) Members of Century Club may apply for a Sports Centre User Card. They may use the sports facilities on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
b) Booking procedures and charges of the Sports Facilities will be the same as those for full-time staff.
c) Members of Century Club may bring a maximum of three guests at any one time.
1.2.11 Other full-time staff not directly employed by the University. They will be required to pay an annual fee. Booking procedures and charges of the Sports Facilities will be the same as those for full-time staff, except that they are not allowed to bring guests.
1.2.12 Guests staying at NTT International House. Subject to availability of sports facilities, they may book the use of the sports facilities at Wai Hang Sports Centre upon payment of a Guest Fee and relevant venue charges.
1.2.13 Other approved users specified by the Management, e.g. visiting team etc.
1.3  Guests
Guests may use the Sports Facilities under the following conditions:-
a) Only those eligible users described in Para. 1.2 may bring guests to the Sports Centre. They must register their guests in the Guests' Book and purchase a Guest Ticket when entering the Sports Facilities.
b) Guests may use any of the sports facilities, except the Fitness Room, which will required a separate Fitness Room User Card.
c) Guests must be accompanied by eligible users at all times when they use the Sports Facilities.
d) Guests shall observe the regulations governing the use of Sports Facilities.
e) Eligible users shall be responsible for the conduct of their guests when using the Sports Facilities.
f) Guest tickets are non-refundable.
g) The expiry date of a Guest ticket is one year after the date of issue. Unused tickets will be considered void on the expiry date.
h) If any eligible user violates any of the above regulations when bringing his/her guests to the Sports Facilities, the Management may suspend his/her right in bringing guests to the Sports Facilities. The Sports Facilities Management Committee shall determine the period of suspension.
i) There is a separate charge for using the Swimming Pool at WHS.
1.4 Booking
1.4.1 The Department of Physical Education of the University has priority in using the Sports Facilities to conduct Physical Education classes and other sports activities, such as competitions, training sessions, seminars and conferences.
1.4.2 Users may only book the facilities during the hours allocated to them.
1.4.3 Staff may use the courts during student hours if the courts are not used ten minutes after the commencement of each scheduled session. Similarly, students may use the courts during staff hours.
1.4.4 Basketball and Volleyball Court bookings must be made in the name of a society, club or department.
1.4.5  Group bookings
a) All bookings for official matches between groups of users must be made at least two weeks in advance.
b) Application for the use of Sports Facilities by a group of staff or students who wish to join an outside league (i.e. matches with outsiders) must be made at least four weeks in advance. In the case of student groups, bookings can only be made through the respective Sports Secretary of the Student Union, club or individual society. The proposed fixture must accompany the application.
1.4.6  Individual bookings
a) Individual bookings for use of tennis, squash and badminton facilities can be made seven days in advance at the Booking Counter of WHS.
b) Each individual booking is limited to one hour only.
1.4.7 Users must apply in person and produce a Hong Kong Baptist University I.D. Cards/Sports Centre User Cards when making a booking.
1.4.8 A permit will then be issued upon payment of the appropriate fee. Fees paid are non-refundable.
1.4.9 Users must check the details of their bookings before leaving the Booking Counter. 
1.4.10 The permit must be produced for inspection upon request.
1.4.11 Users may make only one booking for any one type of facility each day unless otherwise specified.
1.4.12  Cancellation of booking
a) Bookings will be considered cancelled if the facilities are not being taken up ten minutes after the beginning of the reserved session. Other users who wish to use the vacant facilities may make bookings at the Booking Counter.
b) Users are advised to cancel any bookings that are not required before the reserved time.
1.4.13 Telephone bookings will not be accepted.
1.4.14 In case of adverse weather, the Tennis Courts will be closed. Users will be allowed to make alternative bookings based on the original permit within seven days at the Booking Counter. No compensation will be made after that period.
1.5 Discipline
1.5.1 Dress
Users are required to dress in appropriate sports wear. For all indoor facilities and Tennis Courts, the footwear must be non-marking rubber soled plimsolls. Persons in swimming wear are not allowed to enter any part of the indoor facilities and Tennis Courts.
1.5.2 Animals
No animals are allowed to enter the Sports Facilities.
1.5.3 Smoking
Smoking is prohibited in the Sports Facilities.
1.5.4 Food and drink
Except with the permission by Management, no food or drink is permitted in the Sports Facilities.
1.5.5 Audio-Visual Equipment
Except with the permission by Management, no person is allowed to take pictures or make any films, use a radio set portable TV receiver, tape recorder, or similar equipment or play any musical instrument in the premises.
1.5.6 Gambling 
Gambling is not allowed in the Sports Facilities.
1.5.7  Misconduct
a) In the case of misconduct, or of any action inconsistent with the regulations governing the use of the Sports Facilities, the Management has the authority to reject or debar any offender from entering the premises or using the facilities. If necessary, the Management shall report such person(s) to the Sports Facilities Management Committee for appropriate action.
b) All users of the Sports Facilities are prohibited to lend their University I.D. Cards/Sports Centre User cards to others persons. Any violation of this regulation may result in suspension of their rights in using the Sports Facilities.
1.6 Equipment and Property
1.6.1 Equipment may be on loan to users when using the Sports Facilities.
1.6.2 Users must produce and deposit their University I. D. Cards/ Sports Centre User Cards for the loan of equipment.
1.6.3 Users are responsible for the equipment on loan to them. They will be required to pay for any loss or damage of the equipment at a cost to be decided by the Management. Equipment checked out has to be returned immediately after the use of the Sports Facilities.
1.6.4 Users will be responsible for any damage to the properties of the Sports Facilities, such as lockers, windows, flooring, furniture, etc. For the sake of safety, damage should be reported immediately to the Booking Counter.
1.7 Changing Rooms and Lockers
Keys for lockers in the Changing Rooms are issued at the Booking Counter. Users must deposit their University I.D. Cards/Sports Centre User Cards for the use of lockers. On checking out, the keys must be returned to the Sports Attendant at the Booking Counter.
1.8  Lost and Found
a) Users are reminded not to leave valuables in the Sports Facilities. The University will not accept any responsibility for loss or damage of personal property.
b) All found properties should be returned to the Booking Counter. They will be kept at the Sports Centre for a period of three months. Thereafter all unclaimed items will be sent to Office of Student Affairs for further action.
1.9 First-Aid and Liability for Accidents
First-aid boxes are kept in the Booking Counter and Main Hall. Users are responsible for their own safety when using the Sports Facilities. The University will not accept any responsibility or liability for any accident or injury incurred by users.
 1.10 Spectators

Spectators are allowed for matches approved by the Department of Physical Education of the University. They must stay in the area covered with rubber floor-mats or in the viewing galleries.

2.

Swimming Pool

2.1 Opening Hours
The opening hours of the Swimming Pool are posted on the notice board of WHS.
2.2 Rules for Using the Swimming Pool
2.2.1  The following persons are not allowed to enter the Swimming Pool:
a) Any person who has suffered from conjunctivitis (red eye) or other contagious diseases; and
b) Any person who is affected by alcohol or drugs.
2.2.2 Users must purchase a Swimming Pool ticket and present it to the officer-in-charge before entering the Swimming Pool.
2.2.3 An adult must accompany children under the age of 12 when using the Swimming Pool.
2.2.4 Swimmers must wear proper swimming suits. They are not allowed to wear other types of clothing when using the Swimming Pool.
2.2.5 Users must use the footbath and take a shower before entering the Swimming Pool.
2.2.6 Users are not allowed to wear street footwear of any kind in the pool area. Users with clean and unsoiled rubber sandals (flip-flops) may enter the artificial turf area.
2.2.7 No food and drink will be permitted in the pool area.
2.2.8 Users with suntan lotion on their body are not allowed to use the Swimming Pool.
2.2.9 Only kickboards and buoys are permitted in the Swimming Pool.
2.2.10 Diving or activities, which may cause dangers to other swimmers, are prohibited. Games of any kind or chases are not allowed in the pool area.
2.2.11 Users with hair up to shoulder length must wear swimming caps. They may choose to tie up their hair before entering the water.
2.2.12 Users must put the equipment back after use.
2.2.13 Users are reminded not to leave valuables in the pool area. The University will not accept any responsibility for loss of personal property.
2.2.14 Users must follow the instructions of the officer-in-charge or Lifeguard on-duty.
2.2.15

The University reserves the right to refrain any one from using the Swimming Pool if he/she does not comply with the above rules.

 

3.

Charges

The charges for the use of facilities and guest fees are posted on the notice board of the WHS.

NOTE:
 
Any violation of the above conditions by any user may result in suspension of his/her right in using the Sports Facilities. The Sports Facilities Management Committee of the University shall decide the period of suspension.
