2. Exchange Sponsorships for 2009/10

HKBU is in a position to provide exchange sponsorships to local and Mainland full-time UGC-funded undergraduate students, subject to a maximum of HK$34,000 and HK$20,000 for exchange for 1 year and 1 semester respectively (vary according to destinations). The costs incurred may include the passage, accommodation, insurance and other incidental expenses. Expenses incurred that are unrelated to academic study, such as sightseeing, gifts and souvenirs, are not eligible for claims.

A cheque will be issued to students prior to their departure. When collecting the cheque at the International Office, students are required to complete and submit the Undertaking Form for Sponsorship with a copy of HKID card and documentary proof of departure (air/train/vessel tickets).

 

3. University low-interest loan

Low-interest loan (at 2.5% interest per annum) is available for local students who have financial difficulties. The loan is to be paid back by 36 installments after graduation or in one lump sum upon withdrawal from the University or failure to complete the exchange programme.

The minimum loan amount is HK$5,000. For any loan amount above HK$5,000, it should be in multiples of HK$1,000. The maximum loan amount cannot exceed the amount as specified in the table below.

Students who wish to apply for the University loan should complete and submit the following forms to the International Office before the following deadlines:

For exchange in the 1st (Fall) Semester: 1 August
For exchange in the 2nd (Spring) Semester: 5 December

4. Conditions of the Exchange Sponsorship & the University / Government Loan

(a) Students must engage in full-time studies during the exchange period and the subjects taken should be credit bearing.
(b)Students who fail to complete the exchange programme are required to repay the sponsorship and the loan, if applicable, immediately.
(c) During the period of exchange, students are considered full-time undergraduate students of HKBU and are eligible for applying for the Government grant / loan.
