Introduction

This Bibliography is complied with the purpose of promoting media education and media research in Hong Kong. The Bibliography provides a comprehensive reference list to the local mass communication literature. It is hoped that school teachers who are interested in media literacy can use this Bibliography as a guide to develop their media education curricula. They are also encouraged to use it as a starting point in developing their research projects about the media.

This Bibliography is an extension of the work, Bibliography of Communication Research in Hong Kong (1980-90), conducted by the Centre for Hong Kong Studies, a former organization of the Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The present Bibliography collects periodicals, research papers, survey reports and books on mass communication in Hong Kong. It is divided into two parts. The first part is a bibliography list on communication studies from 1991-1998 while the second one is a supplementary bibliography to the one covering 1980-90. The major sources of information are libraries and bookstores. Most of the bibliography entries are derived from the general catalogue of the following libraries:

This Bibliography is distributed to libraries, research centers, media education organizations, educational associations and media educators. School teachers who are conducting media education are particularly welcome to copy the Bibliography.

Thanks have to be given to the Faculty Research Grant Committee of the Hong Kong Baptist University. Without the support of the grant, this Bibliography could not be compiled. Special thanks are also offered to Lau Chow-ling and Lok Chu-kwun, students of the Hong Kong Baptist University, for their assistance in collecting the information.

This Bibliography is far from comprehensive or perfect. I will appreciate it very much if you can inform me about the omissions. I am planning to update and improve this Bibliography from time to time if funding is available. Please forward your comments to Alicelee@hkbu.edu.hk.
