Student Awards and Achievements 2005-2006

BBA students role-play diplomats at HNMUN 2006 in Boston and Beijing

Lo Hoi-chun (Year 3 ACCT) and Carol Tse Sin-yan (Year 3 CBS), as part of a delegation of 14 HKBU students, were selected to experience the world stage when they took part in the 52nd Harvard National Model United Nations 2006 conference held in Boston, USA from 16 to 19 February 2006.

In addition, the University is for this first time taking part in the Harvard World Model United Nations (WorldMUN) conference in Beijing from 27 to 31 March 2006. Two BBA students, Jiang Hong-fen (Year 1 HRM) and Jacqueline Shum Wing-yee (Year 2 FIN), were selected to participate.

A commissioning ceremony was held on 9 February 2006 and officiated by Professor Ng Ching-fai, President and Vice-Chancellor.

The HNMUN conference attracted more than 2,500 students from 130 Universities and colleges around the world. The HKBU team was the only delegation from a Hong Kong university at the event and had been assigned to represent the Republic of Uganda at simulated committee sessions.

The two teams were selected from more than 70 applicants through rigorous screening. Intensive training was organized by the Office of Student Affairs from November 2005 to February 2006. Advisors to the two delegations were Prof. Michael DeGolyer of the Department of Government and International Studies, and Prof. Timothy Hamlett of the Department of Journalism.

The HNMUN and WorldMUN conferences provide student with a unique opportunity to experience international debate and negotiation on real issues of world importance, as well as educating and informing delegates about the complexities of international cooperation and the importance of the United Nations in today's world.
