BBA students and HKBU Delegates Role-play Diplomats at Harvard National Model United Nations 2005

Yang Chunyan (Year 2 ACCT) and Gao Guiwei (Year 3 FIN) together with a delegation of 15 HKBU students were selected to experience the world stage when they took part in Harvard University's prestigious model United Nations conference in Boston, USA, in mid February. The HKBU team was the only delegation from a Hong Kong university at the event this year and represented the Republic of Finland at 11 committees on international law, disarmament and international security, humanitarianism and culture, politics and decolonization.

A commissioning ceremony was held on 2 February 2005 (Wed) and officiated by Mr. Pauli Makela, Consul General of the Republic of Finland in Hong Kong, and Professor Ng Ching-Fai, President and Vice-Chancellor.

The HNMUN 2005 conference, scheduled from 17 to 20 February 2005, attracted more than 2,000 students from 135 universities and colleges around the world which represented 185 nations and territories in conference role play.

The team was selected from more than 60 applicants through rigorous screening.

Intensive training was organized by the Office of Student Affairs from November 2004 to February 2005. Advisors to the delegation were Dr. Michael DeGolyer, Associate Professor of Government and International Studies, and Mr. Timothy Hamlett, Associate Professor of Journalism.
