Dr. Christy Cheung wins Distinguished Paper Award

Dr. Christy Cheung, Assistant Professor of Finance and Decision Sciences, won Distinguished Paper Award for her paper entitled “An Empirical Investigation into the Effect of Information Usefulness on Information Adoption from Wikipedia” at the 2011 International Conference on e-CASE and e-Tech held in Tokyo, Japan in February 2011.

The conference received approximately 475 manuscripts from participants from 43 countries. The four main criteria for the Award were originality, study completeness, academic/practice contribution, and diversity in field and area. An important implication of this study is that educators should provide students with more training on web information. In particular, they should instruct students to pay more attention to the accuracy of online information and to be critical learners. The researchers advised website administrators that they could create a reputation system to help users evaluate the credibility of individual contributors.
