Prof. Chan Kwok-bun, Head and Professor of Department of Sociology, and Director of David C. Lam Institute for East-West Studies

has been appointed for five years from April 2003 to March 2008 to the Advisory Board of an award-winning international refereed journal, Diaspora: A Journal of Transnational Studies, published by the University of Toronto Press.

has been awarded the 'Michael Leifer Memorial Prize' by the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies for a paper titled "Migrant Family Drama Revisited: Mainland Chinese Immigrants in Singapore" (with Seet Chia Sing), published in SOJOURN Vol. 18, No. 2, October 2003.
