The Society of Chinese Materia Medica's booth attracts many visitors

中藥學會的參展攤位吸引不少市民參觀

The University is exhibiting part of its penjing collection, selected from its Man Lung Garden, at the Hong Kong Flower Show which opens today (16 March) at Victoria Park. The Society of Chinese Materia Medica also showcases "folk medicinal herbs" at the show.

This is the sixth consecutive year that the University has taken part in the show, with the aim to promote the art of penjing. On exhibit are 15 of the miniature masterpieces from the Man Lung Garden, which is located at the University entrance on Kam Shing Road, Ho Sin Hang Campus.

With support from Dr. Wu Yee-sun, founder of the Wing Lung Bank and acclaimed as "The Sage of Penjing", the University set up the Man Lung Garden in 2000 to enhance the campus cultural ambience.

The Society of Chinese Materia Medica, one of HKBU's student associations, showcases "folk medicinal herbs" to introduce the public to those herbs which need not be dried, but can be used fresh. According to the Society, most people think that Chinese medicine should be processed (dry-curing, steaming and stir-frying) before use. In fact, quite a few herbs can be used fresh, and some even produce a better curative effect than when processed.

Besides displaying the live plants, the Society will also show the medicinal parts of the plants. As the theme flower this year's show is Pelargonium hortorum, the Society will introduce this plant from the perspective of Chinese medicine. Also included at the exhibition booth are specimens and photos of plants taken by the students of Pharmacy in Chinese Medicine. It is hoped that by various means of introduction the public will be able to learn more about Chinese herbs.

The Hong Kong Flower Show, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, is being held until 25 March.

大學在每年一度的香港花卉展覽中，展出「文農學圃」部份盆景珍品，讓公眾認識盆景藝術；學生組織中藥學會亦展出部份香港常見、常用的鮮草藥。香港花卉展覽今日 ( 三月十六日 ) 起在維多利亞公園舉行。

今次是大學第六度參與花卉展覽，展出的是善衡校園金城道入口「文農學圃」的其中十五盆珍品，藉此進一步推廣盆景藝術。

大學於二零零零年獲永隆銀行創辦人、在國際享有「盆聖」美譽的伍宜孫博士捐贈盆景珍品，在校園內開設盆景藝術園圃「文農學圃」，以增添校園的文藝氣息。

中藥學會以「香港鮮草藥」為參展主題，學會表示，大多數人都認為中藥是需要烘、蒸、炒等炮製後才入藥的，但事實上，不少草藥是可以生用的，部份鮮用草藥的療效比炮製過的更好。

中藥學會除展出這些中草藥的原植物外， 還會展示一些草藥鮮用時的外貌 。 為配合大會以 「 洋葵 」為主題， 中藥學會特設一展板 ， 讓市民從中藥角度認識洋葵 。 同場還有中藥同學製作的腊葉標本及其他植物照片 ， 讓市民可從不同角度認識中藥 。

香港花卉展覽由康樂及文化事務署主辦，展覽日期至本月二十五日。
