Creating Hyperlinks
All exercises you are going to create will start from your index page.

First, you have to list these exercises (or other web pages) on the index page.

Secondly, you have to link the index page and the exercises by assigning a path between them (a "hyperlink").

Create a Second Page

As yet, you do not have exercises. Therefore, we will create another Word (or Frontpage) web page. This page will later guide students to all exercises for Lesson 1 of your system/textbook.

Follow the steps from the previous step and create a second page.

On top of this page, write "Lesson 1/Lektion 1".

Save this page again as a Web page (*.htm) and name it "lesson1".

Save it in the same desktop folder "zheda1"

Return to your index page.

Type in "Lesson 1 / Lektion 1" below the title "Online Exercises".

Mark (highlight) what you have typed.

On the menu, select "Insert", then "Hyperlink".

The program then asks you to type in the file or Web page name.

Click on "Browse" and look for the file "lesson1" in your desktop folder "zheda1". When you have found it, click on it (highlight it) and then click "ok".

Alternatively, you can also type in the file name at the prompt. Please note that you must then type in the whole path correctly. Inserting the file name by "Browse" is easier and safer ...

The file name now appears in the box below "Type the file ...".

Now, click "ok".

The words "Lesson 1 / Lektion 1" should now be underlined and highlighted in blue.

You have created your first hyperlink!

If you place your cursor over the link, you will see that it changes to a small hand (indicating that there is now another page "behind" it). If you click now, the linked page "Lesson 1 / Lektion 1" appears on your screen. Please note that this page is opened in the Internet Explorer (as it is a Web page rather than a Word document.

You can return to your index page by clicking on the "Back" button of the IE.

It is, however, better to place a return link directly on the Lesson 1 page.

To do so, open the file "lesson1.htm" in Word. Go to the bottom of the page and write "Back / Zurück".

Repeat the steps explained above to insert a hyperlink. The file you refer to is now, of course "index.htm".

Once you have done this, your lesson page should look like this:

Try to jump back and forth between your index page and your lesson page to see if the hyperlinks work properly.
