Competition Format

First Round of the Competition

All participating teams were assigned a case on 1 June 2010. They were required to submit the case analysis to IIBD secretariat by 10 June 2010. Five finalist teams, chosen by Organising Committee, wereinvited to Hong Kong to compete for the Gold, Silver and Bronze awards, as well as the Best Presenter award in the final round of the Competition on 17 November 2010.

  • Case Analysis

    Teams were required to submit a case analysis report of not more than 10 pages plus a 2-page Executive Summary based on the case, excluding appendixes.

  • Evaluation Criteria

    The Organising Committee based their decisions on criteria such as the depth and comprehensiveness of analysis, relevance, originality, and persuasiveness.

     

Final Round of the Competition

Finalist teams were presented with a business cases in the morning of 17 November 2010. Each team had six hours to research, analyze and develop a set of action plans, make recommendations, and prepare their presentations. Presentations were made in the afternoon.

  • Case Preparation

    1. The preparation time for the final round is six hours.

    2. Each team will be assigned a workroom for their preparation period.

    3. The following items will be provided to each team:
        a) 1 laptop (loaded with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
        b) wireless internet access
        c) 1 USB key
        d) 1 supplies kit (highlighters, paper, pens, cue cards, etc.)

    4. The case is to be solved in the preparation room. During the preparation ALL case material must remain in the preparation room.

    5. Teams may use textbooks, notes, etc. Use of the Internet for research purposes is permitted.

    6. Discussion of the case in person or through electronic devices with outside sources, faculty or advisors is not allowed.

    7. Presentations must be made in English using Microsoft PowerPoint. The teams may use notes and/or cue cards during the presentations.

    8. Each team must save their PowerPoint presentation files to the USB key provided and submit the USB key to IIBD office at the end of the preparation time.

    9. Each team will receive one copy (hand-out) of their presentation after having handed in.

    10. Mobiles phones are not allowed during the preparation and presentation.

  • Case Presentation

    1. Presentations must be made in English.

    2. Each finalist team will have 20 minutes for presentation, followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session with questions being asked by the panel of judges. There will be five-minute and one-minute remaining warning.

    3. All team members must participate in the presentation, but not necessarily in the question-and-answer session following the presentation.

    4. Team will present PowerPoint presentations using built-in computer and projector in the presentation room.

    5. Teams are not allowed to watch any of the other teams’ presentations preceding their own.

    6. Faculty supervisors are welcome to attend the entire competition.

    7. Teams may record their own presentations. IIBD will record all presentations for purposes of promoting the Competition.

  • Evaluation Criteria

    Judges will base their decisions on criteria such as the depth and comprehensiveness of analysis, relevance, originality, and persuasiveness, as well as each team’s ability to present arguments and recommendations.
