Study Tour Programmes
The IIBD organises study tour programmes for overseas universities. Customised programmes include lectures on business and economics topics, seminars on doing business in Hong Kong and mainland China. In 2005 - 2010, IIBD has hosted study tours for undergraduates, MBA and EMBA students and professor s from the following universities:

Baylor i5 Program organised by Baylor University, USA and University of Shanghai in Sciences and Technology, PRC (6 – 18 July 2010)
The Baylor i5 Program, which
stands for "Immersion Into International Interdisciplinary Innovation", allowed participants to develop science and technology insight, business savvy and global cultural competence through participating in projects sponsored by multinational corporations. As a supporting organisation, IIBD provides logistic support during the group’s stay in Hong Kong. The participants are from: American University, USA; Baylor University, USA; Thunderbird University, USA; University of Macau, Macau China; and University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, PRC.

Yuan Ze University, Taiwan (1 – 6 July 2010)
It is the first time that IIBD organising study tour programme for Yuan Ze University. Ms. Mimi Fu, Training & Development Manager of Ocean Park Corporation received the delegation in Ocean Park on 6 July, and shared her experience of managing and providing training for a large group of colleagues from different professional in the Park.

Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia (19 – 23 June 2010)
The 18 delegates, who are from Faculty of Business and Enterprise, visited HKBU on 19-23 July. IIBD firstly arranged a corporate visit to DCH Logistics Company Limited, a leading modern local logistics companies providing one-stop supply chain logistics services for customers. IIBD also arranged a visit to Social Enterprise Business Centre, Hong Kong Council of Social Service to introduce the concept of social enterprise and its development in Hong Kong to the delegates.

University of Wisconsin-Parkside, USA (30 May – 2 June 2010)
IIBD has organised two seminars and two corporate visits for the delegation of 12 business students and faculty. Dr. Y.C. Ng, Associate Director of IIBD, and Associate Professor of Department of Economics, conducted a seminar on “Overview of Business and Economic Development in Hong Kong and China”, following by “Corporate Governance in Hong Kong, a Perspective of Agency Costs” presented by Prof. Ji Li of Department of Management.

Baylor University, Texas, USA (EMBA) (28 – 30 April 2010)
Fourty EMBA students from different sectors in U.S. and faculty members visited Invest Hong Kong on 29 April 2010 organised by IIBD. Mr. Andrew Davis, Associate Director-General of Invest Hong Kong received the delegation and gave a presentation concerning the Department’s services of assisting foreign businessmen setting up offices in Hong Kong, and some advices for U.S. citizens who are planning to do business in Hong Kong and China.

Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), USA (27 March - 4 April 2010)

This was the second time IIBD organised study tour programme for CIEE, including cultural excursion in Guangzhou and plant visits in Shenzhen. IIBD also arranged an exchange session during their stay in Hong Kong, which created a platform for HKBU students to share their life and experience with the 43 students from 18 universities in USA.

Berlin School of Economics, Germany (MBA) (10-16 January 2010)

The 26 participants, who are majors in “MBA European-Asian Management” joined the study tour programme under the theme of “Doing Business in Asia”. Besides business lectures, several German-related corporate visits such as Kuehne & Nagel Limited, Otto International and German Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong were arranged.

University of San Diego, California, USA (3 – 23 January 2010)
During
the 3-week study tour programme, IIBD provided administrative and logistic
support to the delegation of 39 participants
who attended courses at HKBU. IIBD also arranged
corporate visits to Nippon Paint and Midea
Group in Guangzhou for the delegation.

California State University Fresno, USA (3 – 17 January 2010)

A total of 19 students and faculty of California State University Fresno participated in the study tour programme from 3 – 17 January 2010. They attended lectures at HKBU. IIBD arranged two corporate visits, one cultural excursion and a Panel Discussion on International Marketing by Dr. Henry Fock, Department of Marketing, Ms. Melanie Lee, HKU SPACE and Mr. K.M. Chan, K.M. Consultation Services for the delegation.

University of San Diego, California, USA (MBA) (3 – 13 January 2010)
The 34 MBA
students completed a course on Negotiation taught by their faculty in HKBU. IIBD provided administrative support and arranged student exchange
session during their stay in Hong Kong.

Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), USA (7 - 15 November 2009)
IIBD
organised a seminar for 55 master students majoring in

De La Salle University, The Philippines (27 October 2009)
IIBD organised a seminar for 55 master students majoring in Counselling, Education and Psychology. The seminar, which studied Hong Kong’s higher education development by using the case of HKBU, was presented by Dr. M. H. Mok, Consultant, School of Business, HKBU and Former Vice-President of HKBU.

California State University Fresno, USA (25 October - 1 November 2009)
Thirty-three
EMBA students and faculty had a week-long study tour
programme in HKBU, which included visit to Hong Kong Applied
Science and Technology Research Institute Company Limited (ASTRI)
to see its innovation technology. The group also visit Asia
Airfreight Terminal, and attend a seminar on Hong Kong
Logistics Infrastructure and Operation by Dr. Shi Xinping,
Department of Finance and Decision Sciences to understand
Hong Kong’s logistic industry.

Bowling Green State University, USA (11-15 September 2009)
IIBD
organised an EMBA study tour programme for Bowling Green
State University in September 2009. Prof. Y. C. Ng,
Associate Director of IIBD welcomed the delegation and gave
a brief introduction to HKBU on the first day when they came
to the campus. Some of the corporate visits were cancelled
due to the hitting of Typhoon “Koppu” on 15 September.

Seattle Pacific University, USA (2-6 September 2009)
Three
seminars and three corporate visits were organised for the
students and faculty from Seattle Pacific University. The
delegation also met Mr. Jim Mullinax, Economic Unit Chief,
American Consulate General Hong Kong & Macau to share his
experience of American’s business activities in Hong Kong
and China.

Shenzhen University, Mainland China (13-15 July & 20-22 July 2009)
Around
50 MBA students of Shenzhen University were divided into two
groups and came to Hong Kong on different dates to attend a
seminar on “China's Current Role in the Global Economic
Environment” delivered by Dr. H. L. Chan, Associate
Professor, Department of Economics. Besides, they visited
Hong Kong Trade Development and Independent Commission
Against Corruption to receive information of Hong Kong
Government’s support to foreign businessman and the city’s
anti-corruption policies.

Baylor i5 Program (Baylor University, USA, American University, USA & University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Mainland China) (7-18 July 2009)
The
objective of Baylor i5 Program is to give students
opportunities to work with small and medium size companies
in China and Hong Kong through developing viable business
concepts and emerge technological innovations to their
business operations. The 48-people delegation came to HKBU
to attend seminars focusing on how to do business and market
research in China, IP management, and experience sharing by
Hong Kong executives.

Swinburne University of Technology, Australia (20-24 June 2009)
The
delegation was formed by 21 undergraduate students and
faculty. The group visited The Australian Chamber of
Commerce in Hong Kong and Macau, and was given a briefing by
Ms. Deborah Biber, Chief Executive of the Chamber. They
also visited New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association
to see its social enterprise operation.

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA (30 May - 2 June 2009)
IIBD
arranged a one-day programme, including two lectures and two
corporate visits for the delegation of 14 undergraduate
students and faculty. One of the delegation’s visits was
the Exhibition Hall of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing
Limited, which had a staff introducing the history of Hong
Kong’s stocks and securities markets, and the actual
operation of the Exchange Hall to the participants.

Assumption University, Thailand (17-31 May 2009)
Twenty
business undergraduate students from Assumption University,
Thailand came to HKBU to attend a summer course on
Organisational Behaviour arranged by their faculty. IIBD
was responsible to arrange corporate visits such as Hong
Kong Cable TV Ltd, Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society
and Invest HK. The delegation was also received by Ms.
Suphatra Srimaitreephithak, Deputy Consul General, Royal
Thai Consulate General, Hong Kong to discuss about trade
relationship between Thailand and Hong Kong.

The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE), China (1-7 February 2009)
Thirteen
students from different universities in mainland
China joined the study tour
programme in HKBU via IAESTE China. In addition to
attending lectures by professors of the School of
Business, several corporate visits were arranged for
case study purpose. On the last night of the
programme, students made presentations in groups on
what they have learnt from the study tour.

Taylor University, USA (6-25 January 2009)

IIBD arranged three corporate visits to mainland China for the delegates before they arrived Hong Kong on 21 January 2009. Two corporate visits and a student exchange session were arranged by IIBD on 22 January in Hong Kong. A total of 20 delegates participated in the programme, and 10 HKBU business students took part in the student exchange session.

University of San Diego, USA (3-24 January 2009)
University of
San Diego (USD) has organised two study tour programme
groups to HKBU:
Undergraduate group (3-24 January 2009) – USD arranged their own lectures for the participants during weekdays. IIBD was responsible for providing administrative and logistic support, and connecting mainland Chinese companies for their Shenzhen – Guangzhou Excursion on 15-16 January. A total of 40 delegates participated in the programme.
MBA group (4-14 January 2009) – USD arranged their own lectures for the participants during weekdays. IIBD was responsible for providing administrative and logistic support. A total of 21 delegates participated in the programme.

University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez (8-11 October 2008)
Since
the visiting UPR business students won the SIFE
(Students in Free Enterprise) competition in Puerto Rico
this year, they represented their country in the SIFE
World Cup at Singapore on 29 Sep to 8 Oct. After the
competition in Singapore, the students came to Hong Kong
on 8-12 Oct to study China entrepreneurship and HK SME’s
status and development. During the study tour, they
visited Mental Care Connect Company Ltd (MCC) to see how
a well-known social enterprise works in Hong Kong.

Seattle Pacific University, USA (4-10 September 2008)
The
group of SPU business students visited the US General
Consulate to attend a business seminar hosted by
Commercial Officer Brock Wilson during their study
tour. The study tour was a requirement of their
programme of study. After the study tour, half of the
group headed to Chongqing, China to take Mandarin class
for 10 weeks.

Bethel University, USA (15-23 August 2008)
A
group of 23 MBA students and faculty members from Bethel
University came to HKBU for a nine-day study tour
programme. In addition to participating in 6 business
seminars and five corporate visits, they had a sharing
session entitled “Experience Sharing with Senior
Executives in HK” which included some outstanding
executives from Hong Kong as well. They also had an
excursion to Lamma Island and Cheung Chau Island to
visit traditional fishing villages and experience the
native culture.

The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE), China (14-22 July 2008)
Over
20 Chinese and overseas students came to Hong Kong
through IAESTE China, a non-profit international
association promoting international communication both
in culture and technology for students, institutions and
employers of China. At the end of the five-day study
tour, the delegates gave presentations at “IAESTE
Culture Night” to sum up their experiences and opinions
of the trip.

Aletheia University Graduate School of Management Sciences, Taiwan (29 July 2008)
19 1st Year MBA students from Taiwan spent three days in Hong Kong visiting HKBU and a local food producing company, Home of Swallows. IIBD invited HKBU MBA students to have a welcome lunch with the Taiwanese peers, and to discuss their varying viewpoints as they relate to the two regions.

students from Swinburne University had an excursion to
Shenzhen, China. At Shenzhen the students visited a
printing company and a telecommunications manufacturer.
The trip gave the student opportunity to explore the
ever-changing China and the surface of Shenzhen Special
Economic Zone.

California State University Fresno, USA (14-29 June 2008)
During
the two-week study tour in Hong Kong, the students
had lectures conducted by their professors. The
students had an excursion to Macau during the
weekend and corporate visits to Asia Airfreight
Terminal Co. Ltd., Hongkong International Terminals
Ltd. and Hong Kong Monetary Authority.

Mercer University, USA (6-8 June 2008)
After an excursion in China, 22 MBA students and
faculty members transferred to Hong Kong to attend a
seminar “Overview of Business and Economic
Development in Hong Kong and China” by Dr. Y.C. Ng
at HKBU. There were very positive feedbacks from
the seminar. Following the seminar, the group went
to HK Island for a sightseeing tour in the
afternoon.

The Institute de Estudios Superiores de Adminstracion, Venezuela (18 April 2008)
On 18 April 2008, IIBD organised a study tour for the delegation of 23 MBA students and alumni from the Institute de Estudios Superiores de Adminstracion (IESA), Venezuela. The group attended a seminar on “Financial Issues in the New Developing Market” at HKBU, and visited Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

Beijing Union University, China (15 – 17 April 2008)
Twenty-seven
undergraduate students and 4 faculty members from
Beijing Union University in Mainland China visited
Hong Kong in April 2008. We arranged the group to
visit Jets
Technics International Holdings Ltd., CLP Power Hong
Kong Limited and Asia Airfreight Terminal.
They also attended a seminar on Hong Kong Economic
Development and audited a class on Business
Communications. An
exchange session among students at Beijing Union
University and HKBU was held on 15 April 2008.

Ateneo de Manila University, the Philippines (4 – 10 April 2008)
IIBD
played host for students and faculty from John
Gokongwei School of Management, Ateneo de Manila
University in April 2008. They visited Hong Kong
Stock Exchange Exhibition Hall, Hong Kong Trade
Development Council and Eu Yan Sang (Hong Kong)
Ltd., and attended seminars on Legal System, Finance
and Economic Development in Hong Kong. They also
visited two factories in Shenzhen, China; namely, Lamode Garment (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd. and Emerson
Network Power Asia Pacific.

2008. They met with HKBU students and had

Advantage “diamond”.

group. They also attended seminars at HKBU on Doing

Shenzhen, China was arranged for them, including
visits to Jackson Leader Holdings Ltd, VAS & B.D.F
Technology (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd., and the Splendid
China & China Folk Culture Villages. In
addition, the delegation had sightseeing activities
and cultural excursion in Macau.

A delegation of 2 professors and 17 students from
Seattle Pacific University, USA, visited Hong Kong
in September 2007. Seminars on Hong Kong economic
development and doing business in Hong Kong were

our School of Business
in June 2007. Two seminars were arranged for them,
namely; “Overview of Business and Economic
Development in Hong Kong and China”, delivered by
Dr. Ng Ying-chu of the Department of Economics at
HKBU,
and “Australian Business in Hong Kong and Market
Opportunities for Australia”, delivered by Mr. Mark
Wood, Australian Trade Commission, Australian
Consulate-General in Hong Kong.

May 2007. Seminars on Hong Kong economic and
financial issues and an exchange session with HKBU
students were organised for the delegation.

Rollins College, Florida, USA (17 May 2007)
Seventeen undergraduate students and 3 faulty
members from Rollins College visited Hong Kong in
May 2007. Two short lectures by Prof. Gordon Tang
of Department of Finance and Decision Sciences and
Dr. Michael Young of Department of Management at
HKBU were given to the delegation. An exchange
session with HKBU students and faculty members was
also arranged for the group.

Beijing Union University, China (19 – 20 April 2007)
A
delegation of 34 students and 4 faculty members from
Beijing Union
University in Mainland China visited Hong Kong in
April 2007. We arranged the group to visit Swire
Properties Management Ltd., Home of Swallows Ltd.
and Hong Kong Planning and Infrastructure
Exhibition Gallery. They also attended a seminar
on Hong Kong Economic Development and audited a
class on Organizational Behavior.

A delegation of 2 professors and 13 undergraduate students from College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University in U.S.A. visited our university on 12 January 2007. The group visited the School of Chinese Medicine, and they also had a chance to exchange views on entrepreneurial education and student life with staff and students at HKBU.
Eighteen MBA students from the Institute de Estudios Superiores de Adminstracion (IESA), Venezuela visited Hong Kong on 26 September 2006. The group attended a seminar on “Financial Issues in the New Market” at Hong Kong Baptist University, and visited the Hong Kong Monetary Authority Information Centre.
A delegation of 3 professors and 9 undergraduate students from Seattle Pacific University, USA, visited Hong Kong in September 2006. Seminars on Hong Kong Legal System and Doing Business in Hong Kong were arranged for them. They also visited Hong Kong International Terminals Limited and Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
On 31 May 2006, IIBD organised a study tour to Shenzhen, China, for the delegation of 2 professors and 34 Executive MBA students from Mercer University. They visited Skyworth Group Co., Ltd., ZTE Corporation, and Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics Co., Ltd.
Thirty Executive MBA students from Rollins College visited Hong Kong in May 2006. A 2-hour lecture on "Hong Kong Economic Development and the Impact of Transition to China" was given for the delegation by Dr. Ng Ying-chu of the Department of Economics at HKBU.
A delegation of 3 professors and 30 undergraduate students from Trinity Western University in British Columbia visited our university in May 2006. IIBD organised a programme for them to visit San Miguel Brewery Ltd., CLP Holdings Ltd., Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Hong Kong Cyberport Management Co. Ltd. and Swire Properties Management Ltd.
A group of 22 students led by Dr. Edward Grasso visited our School of Business in April 2006. Special seminars were given by our faculty members, Professor Tsang Shu-ki and Professor Anne Marie Francesco. The group also had a chance to exchange views with other business students at HKBU and Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines on 20 April 2006.
Seventeen students from John Gokongwei School of Management, Ateneo de Manila University, the Philippines led by their dean, Professor Rudy Ang, visited HKBU in April 2006. They visited Consulate General of the Philippines in Hong Kong, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and CLP Holdings Ltd., and attended our seminars on Finance, Logistics and Economic Development in Hong Kong. The students had opportunities to exchange with students from HKBU as well as Eckerd College in the USA. A 2-day visit to Shenzhen, China was arranged for them, which included visits to EganaGoldpfeil (Holdings) Ltd., Lamode Garment (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd., and the Splendid China & China Folk Culture Villages.
A delegation of 45 students and 4 faculty members from Beijing Union University in China visited Hong Kong in April 2006. The group visited KGI Asia Limited, Jets Technics International Holdings Ltd., Hong Kong Planning and Infrastructure Exhibition Gallery and Hong Kong Trade Development Council. They also attended a seminar on Hong Kong Economic Development. The students also attended a class at HKBU, and an exchange session with HKBU students was arranged for them.
A total of 15 graduate students in International Marketing and Marketing Management, led by the Dean of Graduate Studies of Central Philippine University, visited HKBU on 17 March 2006. A seminar was conducted by Dr. Vivienne Luk of IIBD, an exchange session with HKBU faculty and a short campus tour were also arranged for the delegation.
Professor Gerhard Steinke led a delegation of 7 students from Seattle Pacific University visited IIBD in December 2005. The group visited the Hong Kong Employment Development Service Limited, Hong Kong Monetary Authority Information Centre, Hong Kong Planning and Infrastructure Exhibition Gallery, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, and Hong Kong Cyberport Management Co. Ltd. They also attended our business seminars on Management, Economic, Logistics, Finance and Legal System.
Twenty-five students enrolled in the Young-Executive MBA program of Chulalongkorn University in Thailand visited Hong Kong in November 2005. A seminar on Hong Kong economic and financial issues and an exchange session with our local MBA students were organised for the delegation.
A delegation of 23 Executive MBA students and faculty from Fairleigh Dickinson University, visited HK and mainland China in August 2005. They visited Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Hong Kong Productivity Council and Wing Lung Bank Ltd., and attended seminars at HKBU on Doing Business in China, Logistics, Legal and Economic Development in Hong Kong. A 2-day visit to Shenzhen, China was arranged for them, including visits to Dongguan New Island Printing Co. Ltd., and the Splendid China & China Folk Culture Villages. In addition, a 7-day visit to Shanghai and Beijing was organised for the delegation, which included seminars, corporate visits and sightseeing activities.
A delegation of 38 students and 4 faculty members from Beijing Union University in China visited Hong Kong in April 2005. We arranged the group to visit Hong Kong Housing Authority Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong Employment Development Service Limited, Police Museum, the Hong Kong Planning and Infrastructure Exhibition Gallery, and attended a seminar on Hong Kong Economic Development. An exchange session among students at Beijing Union University, and Ateneo de Manila University was held on 6 April 2005.
IIBD played host for 18 students from John Gokongwei School of Management, Ateneo de Manila University, led by their dean, Professor Rudy Ang, in March 2005. They visited Hong Kong Productivity Council, Legislative Council Building and Lee Kum Kee International Holdings Ltd., and attended seminars at HKBU on Finance, Logistics and Hong Kong Economic Development. The students had the opportunities to exchange with students from HKBU as well as Beijing Union University in China. We also arranged a 2-day visit to Shenzhen, China for them, which included visits to two factories of EganaGoldpfeil (Holdings) Limited in Nanao and the Splendid China & China Folk Culture Villages.
Dr. Karen Tangen and 9 students from Bethel University, Minnesota visited HKBU in January 2005. IIBD arranged a campus tour and organizations’ site visits for them, including the Hong Kong Employment Development Service Ltd., TDC Business InfoCentre and Hong Kong Exchange & Clearing Ltd.
