1. Exchange Sponsorships for 2012-2013

Every student accepted to participate in the Student Exchange Programme is eligible to receive an HKBU Exchange Sponsorship.

(a) Scholarships offered through the International Office

With the generous support of our donors, there are a number of merit-based and/or need-based scholarships available to eligible students.

List of Available Scholarships

To be considered for any of these scholarships, you must be an eligible applicant and fulfill the following requirements and conditions:

- Excellent scholastic ability (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above at the time of application and at the conclusion of the semester prior to the beginning of an exchange);
- A good TOEFL/IELTS score (i.e. a TOEFL/IELTS score above the minimum requirement);
- Strong leadership skills;
- Outstanding records of extra-curricular activities as well as community and voluntary services;
- A well-rounded personality;
- Willingness to contribute to HKBU and to the community;
- Proven financial need (a criterion for some but not all scholarships); and
- Your application must be supported by your Head of Department/Programme Director.

Please submit the completed "Application Form for Scholarships for Student Exchange Programme 2012-2013" together with your "Application for Student Exchange Programme 2012-2013" and attach the following documents:

- A personal statement in 500 words in English to convince us why you should be awarded a scholarship (for exchanges in Mainland China and Taiwan only, please submit your personal statement in Chinese also in 500 words); and
- For those students with financial needs, the result of your Government grants/loans application for the current academic year.

Notes
- Qualified students will be invited to attend a panel interview during February 9-29, 2012.
- All of the scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and subject to the availability of funds. Certain scholarships may not be available every year.
- Students are only entitled to receive one scholarship at Hong Kong Baptist University.

The University offers a low-interest loan (at 2.5% interest per annum) to students experiencing financial hardship. Full-time Government-funded undergraduate students, who have proven financial needs and who are Hong Kong permanent residents, are eligible to apply.

The loan will be paid back in 36 installments after graduation, or in one lump sum upon withdrawal from the University or if fail to complete the exchange programme.

The minimum loan amount is HK$5,000. For any loan amount above HK$5,000, it should be in multiples of HK$1,000. The maximum loan amount cannot exceed the amount as specified in the table below.

Students who wish to apply for the University loan should complete and submit the following forms to the International Office before the following deadlines:

For exchange in the 1st (Fall) Semester: 1 August
For exchange in the 2nd (Spring) Semester: 5 December

4. Government Grant and Loan

According to the Student Financial Assistance Agency (of the Government of the HKSAR), students who have the right of abode in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong) or have resided or have had their home in Hong Kong continuously for three complete years prior to the commencement of the publicly-funded study programme are eligible for the government grant and loan while participating in the Programme.
