The Hong Kong St. John Ambulance Association

The St. John Ambulance Association is one of the two branches of The St. John Ambulance (The Association and The Brigade). She is responsible for providing the instruction of members of the public in the principles and the practice of First Aid, Nursing, Hygiene and other allied subject, together with the preparation, publication and the distribution of text books and other training aids to facilitate such instruction. The work of the Association is conducted by a group of full-time staff including Senior Traning Officer, Training Officers, and Training Assistants. They are assisted by the Panels of Volunteer Doctors and Instructors.

Tution, the screening of First Aid film shows and demonstration in connection with First Aid work, usually take place in the St. John premises on the Hong Kong Island, in Kowloon and also in the New Territories. However, tuition/demonstratons may also be arranged for firms/factories employing large labour forces. In such cases, the Association arranges for the equipment and the lecturers to be conveyed to the addresses concerned.

Examinations are conducted by the Association in First Aid, Nursing, First Aid at Sea, Maternal & Child Health Courses and other allied subjects. The demand for the various course of instruction continues and it will continue to increase as the population grows and more people become aware of their value. Currently, there are around 300 volunteer instructors serving in the Association.
