The St. John Ambulance Brigade is one of the two branches of The St. John Ambulance (The Association and The Brigade). She is responsible for providing First Aid and allied services to the Community, but before being assigned to duties of any kind, the Ambulance, the Nursing and the Cadet members of the Brigade must be fully qualified to perform the tasks expected of them.

The principal duties are carried out by Ambulance/Nursing Members of the Brigade, the Cadet learning from their more highly qualified and experienced colleagues by attachment to various First Aid Squads carrying out public duties throughout the territory.

The Cadets also have their own duties to perform and these include outings, picnics and variety shows which are put on for handicapped/under-privileged children and old people. The Cadets have a very busy time especially during the summer holidays, organising Community projects and undergoing proficiency courses.

The Ambulances run by the Brigade are stationed in three depots attending to emergency from resident of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and New Territories 24 hours a day. They are also on hand at the races, sports meeting, walkathons and other public events where large numbers of persons are in attendance. This 24 hours FREE Ambulance Service can be called with the following telephone Number :

Hong Kong : 2576 6555
Kowloon : 2713 5555
N.T. : 2639 2555

The dental Section which is attached to the Brigade, is the only one of its kind throughout all the St. John organisations in the world and it provides a valuable service to handicapped children who attend the fully equipped surgery at District Headquarters each week.

St. John is continuing to expand its services in order to keep pace with the very rapid development taking place in Hong Kong and the tremendous increase in the population, especially in the new Towns in the New Territories. The services which the Order of St. John provides for the public have always been in great demand and will continue to grow as increasing numbers of people enjoy more leisure and recreational pursuits.

The St. John Ambulance Brigade had served Hong Kong aggressively (since 1916) in past eighty-nine years (during times of peace, civil unrest and war) with her Mottoes "Pro Fide" and "Pro Utilitate Hominum", which mean "For the Faith" and "For the service of Mankind", by providing First-Aid, Ambulance, Nursing and allied services to the community and the government.

Currently the Brigade has over four thousand and five hunderd members. Except some old members, who joined the Brigade at earlier time had only primary school standard, most of them have at least secondary school standard. There are also many members who are degree holder and some of them even have higher degrees. There are over one hundred surgeons and also over one hundred nurses in service. All the members served our community as volunteers with the above Mottoes. Click here to view the Current Divisions of Hong Kong St. John Ambulance Brigade
