| Abstract |
The main focus of the paper is the reporting and discussion of political and
politically sensitive issues. The paper provides a review of the position in the HKSAR by looking at some recent examples of wide ranging political (and other) discussions across the HKSAR media. The rather "symbiotic" relationship between the media and the public in the HKSAR is also examined. Although the regulatory touch in Hong Kong remains comparatively light, the HKSA's planned (shelved for now, at least) new National Security laws (a product of Article 23 of the Basic Law) provide cause for concern. The possible impact of these regulatory changes is also canvassed. The paper also provides some brief commentary on the continuing official responses to the reporting of politically sensitive issues in Mainland China. |
