Rationale
The relationship between information and social change has long fascinated researchers. In the era of global interdependence, what role does digital news play in economic and social change, as well as national and community developments? How is the flow of digital news related to the globalization process?
The technology of online and satellite news has posed new challenges to
the practice of journalism. How do these new modes of news dissemination
change the institution and practice of journalism? Dissemination of information
over the Internet challenges the traditional role of professional journalists
as gatekeepers and raises the question: "Who is a journalist?"
This conference aims to involve academics and news practitioners in discussing
the relationships between digital news, social change and globalization.
By digital news, it is meant to include online and satellite, as well as
radio and television news.
