Mentor-Mentee Scheme: With the aim of widening our students’ exposure to the profession, each year we invite about 30 experienced journalists, many of them our own graduates, to become mentors to our first-year students. This “second classroom” adds breadth and depth to students’ understanding of the profession and helps them to learn through inspiration.

Pulitzer Prize Winners Workshop: Each year, starting in 2007, we will invite four to six Pulitzer Prize winners to the Department to share their experience with our students as well as media professionals and the public in a variety of events. The first of its kind in Asia, the Workshop aims to enhance the interviewing and reporting skills of students through the analysis of the Pulitzer Prize winners’ stories in discussion with the authors. The Pulitzer Prizes are the most respected annual award in the United States and have worldwide recognition.

Journalists-in-residence: From 2008, the Department will invite several seasoned journalists to join us on campus for one to two weeks at a time. Their activities will include lectures, small group discussions, demonstrations and experience sharing. Through these contacts students will be able to get the latest information on developments in the news industry.
