Brief biography
Joyce joined the Baptist University in 1993 and is now Assistant Professor.
During September 2004-June 2005, she was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar affiliated
with the Philip Merrill College of Journalism, University of Maryland, College
Park, researching on the practices of public journalism in the United States. She obtained her Ph.D. in Communication at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2001. Before joining the academia, Joyce was a journalist, first in the London office
of Sing Tao Daily News, then in Hong Kong with Sing Tao Evening News, South
China Morning Post,
Asia Television and lastly as assistant managing editor in Capital magazine.
Joyce also worked as assistant editor at the Hong Kong Film Festival and assistant
manager at the Hong Kong Space Museum. She obtained her M.A. in Translation and Interpretation at the City Polytechnic (now University) of Hong Kong, and her B.Soc.Sc. in Psychology at the University of Hong Kong. Her research interest is in the civic use of the Internet and journalism issues. Subjects taught Selected publications 2008

Recent public service Joyce is a judge annually from 1997 to 2004 and in 2007 and 2008 for the Human Rights Press Awards, organized by Hong Kong Journalists Association, Foreign Correspondence Club, Hong Kong, and Amnesty International Hong Kong. She is a member of the Radio Television Hong Kong Programme Advisory Panel since 2006. She was also a judge for the Awards for Editorial Excellence 2004, organized by the Society of Publishers in Asia. back |
