Dr. Yan Mei Ning (甄美玲) has worked as an assistant professor in the Department of Journalism of the Hong Kong Baptist University since September 1999. She received her Ph.D. degree in law from the University of Essex in 1998. She also obtained a LLM degree in human rights, emergency law and discriminations (1995) from the Queen's University of Belfast, a LLB degree (External) (1993) from the University of London, a BA degree in geography (1979) and a certificate in Education (1981) from the University of Hong Kong. Before joining academia, Dr. Yan worked during a span of 14 years as reporter, researcher, producer and sub-editor for various media organizations in Hong Kong.
