Fifth Joint Board Meeting of LEWI and IIBD (14 November 2008)

The day after the conference, members of LEWI and IIBD gathered for the fifth joint board meeting. Matters for discussion at the meeting included: proposals from thematic working groups, membership of the Executive Committee 2008-2010, re-structuring of research programmes, and terms and conditions of new membership.

Below is a summary of decisions made at the meeting:

1) Program proposals from the environmental working group and the mobility working group were approved;

2) Mercer Universityˇ¦s self-nomination for the vacant seat on the Executive Committee (Lund University has decided not to apply for re-election) was accepted. The membership of the Executive Committee 2008-2010 will be: Mercer University, Baylor University, Keimyung University and Nanjing University.

3) LEWI will continue to support the Europe-China Research Program and the North America-China Research Program in their existing format, while reformulate the Western Pacific Rim-China Research Program into thematic programs. As the program proposals from the environmental working group and the mobility working group were approved by the Board, this would mean that LEWI could support four research programs in total.

4) LEWI will receive applications for new members. A membership quota will not be set at the moment, but all new membership applications must be approved by the Board.

Detailed minutes of the meeting are being prepared by the secretariat and will be available to members soon.
