New Students in Fall 2008
In Fall 2008, we welcome three new students to LEWI to participate in the
Resident Graduate Scholarship (RGS) Program:
Tan Xiaoqin (ĂÓ¤pµ^), Ph.D. Candidate, Research Center of Science, Technology and
Society,
Tsinghua University. Thesis topic: ˇ§Comparative Study of the Technology
Transfer Model in the Hong Kong Baptist, Tsinghua and Oxford Universityˇ¨. Field
supervisor at HKBU: Prof. Jonathan W. C. Wong, Department of Biology.
ˇ§It is indeed my great honour to be able to participate in the LEWI RGS program.
I would like to express my thanks to the directors and staff members of LEWI,
who gave me the chance to study in HKBU and helped me settle in. Special thanks
are due to Prof. Jonathan W. C. Wong and Prof. Ricky N. S. Wong, Department of
Biology, HKBU, for their generous help. My sincere gratitude also goes to Prof.
Zeng Guoping, Tsinghua University, for his helpful advice on my research.
In 2005, after obtaining my bachelor degree in Administration at Beijing
University of Aeronautics & Astronautics, I was admitted to a five-year doctoral
program at Tsinghua University. My research focus is on knowledge capitalization
and intellectual property trade globalization in knowledge-based economy.ˇ¨
Guo Yue (ł˘®®), Master Candidate, School of Economics,
Jilin University. Thesis
topic: ˇ§Economic Ethics and the Sustainable Development of Chinaˇ¦s Economyˇ¨.
Field supervisor at HKBU: Prof. Lam Kit Chun, Department of Economics.
ˇ§My name is GuoYue. Iˇ¦m really glad to have this precious opportunity to study
in LEWI for 5 months.
Currently I am conducting a research on ˇ§Economic ethics and the sustainable
development of Chinaˇ¦s economyˇ¨. The objective of my research is to find out how
ethics affect the economy and what measures the government should take to
provide an incentive mechanism for market participators to ensure a sustainable
development of the economy.
As a Christian, Iˇ¦m trying to find out how Christianity ethics influences the
sustainable development of human society and economy. For HKBU is built on the
belief of Christianity, Iˇ¦m sure my research stay in LEWI will expand my horizon
and give me lots of new insights.
David Guttormsen, Ph.D./ MPhil Candidate, Centre for International Business,
Leeds University. Thesis topic: ˇ§Explaining Managerial Experiences and
Management Performance of Scandinavian Managers during Intercultural Encounters
within International Strategic Alliances ˇV A China and India Focusˇ¨. Field
supervisor at HKBU: Prof. Anne Maire Francesco, Department of Management.
ˇ§I am 28 years old and from Norway. Originally, I am from Indonesia but was
adopted to Norway when being only 3 months old. Hence, my ethnicity is ˇ§Asianˇ¨,
whereas my cultural background is Norwegian (and now mixed with impulses from
living in Australia for 4 years, Spain for 4 months, and England for 1 year).
Choosing to live abroad reflects quite well my interests related to
international issues and cultural implications, which also led me to study a
mastersˇ¦ degree in international relations, and perhaps unconsciously deciding
to work full-time with integration of minorities prior to going to Leeds. I
enjoy socializing and being with friends, and to discuss, contribute to society
around me as well as widen my horizon.ˇ¨
