Seminar topic:An Ethnographic Investigation of Scandinavian Expatriates in Hong Kong – Preliminary Findings

Abstract

The purpose of this presentation is to analyse preliminary findings in an iterative hermeneutical manner from an ongoing field study of Scandinavian expatriates in Hong Kong concerning their experiences related to adjusting to local society and perceptions of intercultural interaction. The discussion is rooted in a constructionist epistemology with an interpretive theoretical underpinning where understanding of culture builds on a dynamic, meaning- and context-based approach. In addition, a backgrounder concerning the research project, methodology, relevant literature, field-work issues, as well as potential contributions, implications and limitations, will be presented.
