Abstract This research tries to introduce the sense of sustainable development to China’s economy. According to the theories of economic ethics which have been agreed internationally, there are four pillars of sustainable development, they are “economy efficiency, social equality, environmental viability and culture diversity”. The article provides a profile of the status of China’s economy and explores the institutional barriers which handicapping the further transition and development of China’s economy, such as hukou system and social security system. Some comparisons between Mainland China and Hong Kong have been made to illustrate the particular role that Hong Kong can play in the process of China’s sustainable development and the formation of civil society .The results of investigations in six cities of Mainland China and the WVS2005(world value survey2005) will be presented in this article as evidences. |
