Duan Yuanyuan (段園園), Master student, Lanzhou University. Seminar topic: The Diffusion of Nestorianism along the Silk Road from Tang to Song Dynasty |
Abstract Nestorianism first arrived in China in A.D. 635. However, it disappeared in historical records after Emperor Wu Zong abandoned Buddhism. Hence, some scholars hold the view that Nestorianism vanished in China after A.D. 835. With historical record as reference, this seminar will sketch the diffusion of Nestorianism along the Silk Road from the 7th to the 11th centuries under the perspectives of Nestorian relics. The relations between Buddhism, Islam and Nestorianism will also be analyzed, in order to promote a deeper understanding towards Nestorianism. |
