Seminar topic: Discourse Analysis on Contemporary Chinese Independent Film: A Preliminary East-West Comparison

Abstract

Since the early 1990s, independent film has developed as a new and salient player in Chinese cultural production —— a player that is enthusiastically welcomed at international film festivals overseas and that has become a subject of research in academic circles. But as far as I am concerned, western and Chinese scholars have different attitudes and research orientations for the Contemporary Chinese independent film This report will compare the research methods and theoretical framework used by western scholars with those by Chinese scholars, and to reveal the different discourse mechanisms behind them.
