Introduction:
Jesuit missionaries in the late Ming period brought the knowledge about Western astrology, technology, geography, irrigation to China and got favourable reception from many Chinese scholars who called this knowledge as "Tian Xue" (science about heaven). But the missionaries regarded Christianity as the most important part of this "Tian Xue". The conflict and mergence resulting from the differences between Eastern and Western thinking on religion, produced four emminent writings by scholars of the East and West of this time. Those writings will be the focus of this Late Ming series of public talks.
