The Resident Graduate Scholarship (RGS) Programme was launched in September 2002 to advance bilateral collaboration between Hong Kong Baptist University and participating member institutions. The programme is conceived with a reciprocal vision to bring students of participating universities to Hong Kong, under the co-supervision of HKBU faculty and vice versa. Beginning January 2004, the scope of the Programme has expanded. When resources are available, applications from outside of the LEWI consertium institutions will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

By January 2009, LEWI has sponsored 55 research students from Mainland China and overseas member universities.

Value

HK$6,000 (about US$770) to be awarded by the David C. Lam Institute for East-West Studies; research facilities at the discretion of the host institution.

Duration

Five months from September to January next year (spring semester) or February to June (Fall Semester).

Accommodation in Hong Kong

Successful applicants are arranged to stay at the NTT International House on HKBU campus. Rental rates are as follows:
Room sharing: HK$3,000 per student for 30 consecutive nights.
Single occupancy: HK$7,200 per room for 30 consecutive nights.

Note:
Successful applicants will have to pay a caution money of HK$1,000 (refundable) and the room rental for 5 full months to the NTT International House before they arrive in Hong Kong. Usually the NTT International House will issue a payment notice to successful applicants one or two months before the semester begins. Successful applicants are expected to settle the payment 10 days upon receiving the payment notice.
