This is Your Library

The Library serves the University community by supporting and fostering teaching, learning, and research activities. Each and every one of you can help make our Library a welcoming and pleasant place conducive to such activities. To help achieve this goal, please:

Keep your voice down;
Refrain from smoking, drinking, or eating in the Library;
Switch your mobile devices to silent mode;


Leave wet umbrellas outside of the Library or place them in plastic umbrella jackets before bringing them into the Library;
Protect library books and other materials from being mutilated or damaged and;
Respect the rights of other library users.


Protect Your Personal Belongings

Although the Library makes every effort to ensure a safe environment for everyone, it is still important for you to be cautious. Please do not bring valuable items into the Library. You should always guard your personal belongings such as wallets, purses, and mobile phones. NEVER leave them unattended. In case of theft, please report to the library staff on duty immediately.


Demerit Point System

To promote a pleasant environment that protects library materials and is conducive to study and research, you are advised to refrain from the following undesirable activities in the University Libraries:




Eating, drinking and/or displaying food and beverage, except in the Pilot Learning Commons (Level 2);
Making excessive noise in open areas and causing disturbance to others;
Borrowing University I.D. card or library ticket from others;
Lending University I.D. card or library ticket to others;
Defacing or intentionally damaging library materials, equipment and furnishings;
Intentionally taking library materials out of the library without checking them out;


Other improper behavior that may cause annoyance to other users and staff members in the Library or disrupt the normal routine of the Library.

To discourage the above undesirable activities, the Library implements a demerit point system. Action will be taken when a library user has accumulated a certain level of demerit points. Details can be found below:



Improper user behavior such as those listed in the Demerit Point Table will result in demerit points recorded and accumulated in the user's library record.

Repeated infringements will result in the following series of penalties. Action will be taken when a library user has accumulated a certain level of demerit points.
The demerit point balance will be reset to zero after reaching 20.


The Library reserves the right to modify the demerit point system. For enquiries, please contact the Duty Librarian at the Reference Desk.
