Sharing of International Exchange Experience

"This is a really great opportunity for me to study in Europe and learn the European culture and economy. The study was a memorable one. We met a lot of friends from different countries and the first thing I learned there was to communicate in a multicultural environment. During the 3-week class study, I have gained the systematic knowledge in Europe and European Union (EU). Although it was not that much, compared with before, I learned a lot.

In addition, visiting to the European institutions in Brussels was also an intensive and valuable experience. The trip to Brussels gave me a deep insight on the functioning of European institutions and got a better understanding of EU's decision-making procedures. It was a unique chance to meet people who worked there. Officers, parliamentarians and representatives were so professional in speech and patient in answering our questions."

"I appreciated that I could have the chance to join the Summer Exchange Programme to ESSCA and it was a really excited and worthwhile study! It was my first time to live in a foreign country and study in a foreign culture with classmates coming from all over the world. I studied in Anger - a typical small European city; Paris - one of the most amazing places in the world, and European Union - located in Brussels in Belgium. I had not only acquired the European knowledge from the teachers and assistants, but was also inspired by the people's passions, creative thinking and fascinated outlook and lifestyle. I had learned much from my classmates who came from the USA and Taiwan. I think this was a wonderful experience outside campus, which had broadened my horizon and given me more thirst for knowledge. I also took this chance to travel to the other countries in Europe, such as Italy, Vatican and Switzerland after the study."

If you are looking for a memorable experience, join our overseas exchange programme. The 2010 exchange programme is now open for applications. Both full-time and part-time HK class MBA students are encouraged to join.

The summer exchange programme is valuable and memorable for me. In my class, most of the students came from USA, while the others were from Mainland China, Mexico, Macao and Taiwan. We studied together in class and played together after class. During the class, I found that American students always gave some creative ideas and Chinese people were really good at mathematics.

During the exchange, I learned deeply about the European culture, European history and European economic. Besides formal classes, we had a chance to visit Brussels for three days. We visited the European Commission, European Council and European Parliament as well as attended several seminars about some hot issues in Europe. Through the visits and seminars, we got a better understanding on the function of the three institutions. ESSCA also arranged some meaningful activities for us for most of the weekends, such as visiting wine plant, famous castle and Normandy.

I think France is a country with lots of freedom, French people know how to enjoy their life and their work. I love this lifestyle and it is a really worthy experience for me.

This is a wonderful summer exchange programme I had been in. Students came from ten different countries make friends with each other. Besides learning the business related courses, the programme provided a great opportunity for me to understand more about the history, culture and development of the European Union, which I had limited prior knowledge.

Moreover, I can polish my cross-cultural communication skills. During our class discussion, it was easy to identify the difference in thinking among various cultures. To me as a Chinese, I would firstly focus on the macro aspect of the problem. Yet, for German, they would focus on the details instead.

I did enjoy the life in France. My classmates and I enjoyed the delicious food, tasted the nice French wine, and felt the engaging see sight, dancing together in the street on Music Festival. Angers is really a quiet, friendly, attractive city where you can find the real France.

Of course, it is a difficult decision for a part-time student to spend four and half week's time for a summer program outside Hong Kong. But if you're looking for a new job or have lots of free time, it'll be wonderful having a chance to join the exchange program.

The Angers Summer Program provides more than 70 hours of lecture, 7 days' visit to different historical castles, wine manufacturers and the famous 'Normandy(D-Day)' in Northwest France as well as another 3 full days in Brussels with a visit to the European Council, Parliament and Commission.

Students coming from different countries such as Finland, Poland, Russian, Mexico, America, Germany, Thailand, Macau and Mainland joined the program and it would be a great opportunity to share and exchange different ideas and opinions. What's more, you can know more about the 'European Union (EU)', 'European History' after World War II as well as the culture of France and French wine.

The exchange life in ESSCA, Hungary is a lovely memory in my life.

I am so appreciated to have a chance to be an exchange student in ESSCA, Hungary. This is the first time that I went abroad alone and spent nearly 2 months in a country which has different languages and cultures. During my exchange at ESSCA, I met friends coming from India, France, Thailand & the PRC. All of us enjoyed the times during the class and the site visits. Beside academic knowledge, I learnt about different cultures among my friends. It helped me to understand more on cross cultural management via practical lives and gained friendship with each others.

As Hungarian is the main language in the city, I need to use the body language for communication in daily life. With this experience, I found myself to be more independent and became more confident in my future development.

Germany! My unforgettable study......

What do you think if you have a chance to study abroad after working for several years? Right! It is not an easy decision! Get support from your family, give up your job and spend most of your savings for just five weeks! Yes, I made my decision in a minute because it was my dream when I was in secondary school. I would regret if I could not take this opportunity.

I had lots of memories: sweet, sad and happiness during the exchange. My study was in Duisburg-Essen University. The class had 19 classmates (USA 14, Russia 2, Korea 1, Hong Kong 2). We lived, studied and watched FIFA (World Cup) together. I learnt the cultural difference between East and West.

Professor Cassel was in-charge of the exchange program and led us to a Berlin Trip. When we, the young guys, were extremely exhausted by walking through sightseeing points, Professor Cassel (almost 70 years old) was still full of energy. Professors in the University were nice. You can’t imagine that a professor would lend his own refrigerator, deliver and “hide” it in our dormitory during the HOT summer! It was a really worthy experience for me and I’m sure you will get same or even more if you take the chance.
