Established in 1956, Hong Kong Baptist University is a publicly-funded institution committed to the provision of quality higher education in Hong Kong, combining broad-based liberal education characteristics with academic and professional rigour. The University has a student population of around 7,500 with a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (leading up to PhD level) offered under six Faculties/Schools (Arts, Business, Chinese Medicine, Communication, Science and Social Sciences) and the Academy of Visual Arts. In addition, there is a School of Continuing Education which caters to a large group of full-time and part-time students. Preparations are underway for the transition from a three-year to a four-year undergraduate programme, with a concomitant expansion in student and faculty numbers. The University is now looking for a dynamic, innovative and distinguished scholar to be the Dean of Business, tenable February 2009, or later.

The School of Business currently comprises five departments (viz. Accountancy & Law, Economics, Finance & Decision Sciences, Management and Marketing), four specialized research centres and two business support units. The School offers a wide spectrum of high quality undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. To allow a smooth transition from a three-year to a four-year programme in 2012, the School is developing a School-based admission system and is broadening the BBA core curriculum. The postgraduate programmes, ranging from diplomas to masterˇ¦s and doctoral degrees, specialize in areas of strategic human resources management, corporate governance and directorship, business administration, accounting and finance. The HK-China MBA programme is the first MBA in Hong Kong to have a China business emphasis, and the MSc in Strategic Human Resources Management and MSc in Corporate Governance and Directorship remain at the forefront, not only in Hong Kong but throughout the region. The School has at present around 70 full-time faculty members and a student body of around 1,800, including around 500 postgraduate students.

The Dean of the School of Business should be a visionary leader and a distinguished scholar who can provide effective academic leadership to the School in ensuring the highest academic standard in teaching and research, establishment of strong business linkages and academic partnerships, and collaboration with external organizations in joint projects and/or new initiatives in service to the society. Reporting to the Vice-President (Academic), the appointee will also work actively with the other Deans of Faculties/Schools and the senior management in the strategic development of the University. While the Deanship position will demand significant time commitment to administrative duties, it is expected that the appointee will hold a concurrent academic appointment in the School and thereby contributes to teaching, research, and other scholarly activities.

Candidates should have established a distinguished track record of performance in teaching, research and university administration, with excellent adaptability to changes and challenges, effective communication and interpersonal skills, good resource management skills, and ability to build a strong team in support of the future development of the School. Good capability in fund-raising and practical business experience are added advantages. The ideal candidate should preferably be proficient in both English and Chinese.

Appointment Terms
The appointment will normally be made on a three-year contract basis, renewable subject to mutual agreement and more flexible terms of appointment may be negotiated. Remuneration package will be highly competitive, including a basic salary on the Professorial range, retirement/gratuity benefits currently at 15% of basic salary, annual leave, medical and dental scheme, accommodation, relocation allowance and cash allowance wherever appropriate.
