Bibliography
Introductory Note
Following the pattern set by KSP1, the Bibliography for this second volume is divided into two parts: ‘Kant’s Works’ and ‘Other Sources’. The second part lists in alphabetical order all the secondary sources actually referred to in the text, including (for convenience of cross-referencing) separate listings for collections that have more than one essay cited within the Bibliography. Of course, numerous other works have also been consulted (especially those to be used in KSP3 or KSP4), but are not listed, since no mention was made of them in the present text. The code that appears to the left of each entry uses a slightly revised method, compared to the one used in KSP1: here it consists of the first two letters of the author’s surname (or the first letter of the first two authors’ surnames, in the case of multiple authorship), plus the last two numbers of the publication year; entries that would have identical codes are distinguished by changing the second letter in one case to the first letter of the author’s first name, or by appending lower case letters (a, b, etc.) to both. References to my publications now use the Pa prefix, instead of Pq, as in KSP1. For more information on the use of abbreviations, see the Note on References, pp.xiii-xiv.
The first part again abbreviates all Kant’s published works as ‘Kt’; but this time references to the standard German edition use the abbreviation ‘AA’ (for Akademie Ausgabe). This part is again divided into four sections: (I) Kant’s primary systematic works, arranged in logical order, as determined in KSP1: III.4 [see III.1, above]; (II) all other publications and lectures included in AA1-9, classified first according to their dominant ‘standpoint’, then chronologically; (III) summary of the other, unpublished writings included in AA10-29; and (IV) collections of original English translations. Section I lists each work first by its German title, original year of publication, and location in AA, followed by the equivalent location in the new Cambridge Edition of Kant’s works (abbreviated CE, followed by the volume number, as itemized in section IV). Next, each entry specifies the English translation I have (or would) most often use(d) in quoting that work. A separate paragraph (in smaller print) then lists chronologically any other original English translations that include at least half of the entire work. Translations of shorter extracts are included only for works that have not been translated in full. If I use one of these alternative translations in a quote, I specify the translator’s name after the relevant reference in the text. The order of the Kt numbering used in KSP1 remains unchanged here, except that Kt67 and Kt68 (previously used, somewhat inconsistently, for minor Reflections) now represent two published works that had been omitted from the KSP1 listing. The information on translations has, of course, been thoroughly revised, in line with the more complete data given in Pa94c:104-18 and taking into consideration subsequent publications.
