Workshop on Infusing Critical and Creative Thinking into Content Instruction by Professor Robert J. Swartz |

Prof. Swartz has a PhD from Harvard University and has taught at the University of Illinois, Brown University, and the University of Massachusetts at Boston. He is the lead author of a number of important books on teaching thinking skills including Teaching Thinking: Issues and Approaches (with David Perkins)(1990), Infusing Critical and Creative Thinking into Elementary Instruction (with Sandra Parks) (1995), Infusing the Teaching of Critical and Creative Thinking into Secondary Science (with Sandra Parks and Stephen Fisher) (1998), and the three-volume series of Infusion Lessons in Language Arts, Gr. 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6 (co-authored with a number of classroom teachers) (1999). He has also authored numerous articles about teaching and assessing critical and creative thinking skills in works such as Developing Minds (ed. Art Costa, 1991) and journals such as Educational Leadership. Prof. Swartz is currently a member of the steering committee for the International Conference on Thinking. |

This workshop focuses on how to infuse critical and creative thinking skills into standard K-12 content instruction in ways that can accomplish both the development of such thinking skills and the enhancement of content learning. Lesson examples will be examined and a framework for such instruction will be developed. Participants will be given an opportunity to apply this framework in heir own educational context. |
