The Chaplain’s Office held the 70th Anniversary Founders’ Day Thanksgiving Service at the University Chapel on 17 March. The University community, including members of the Council and the Court, faculty and staff, students, alumni, donors and supporters gathered to celebrate this meaningful milestone and thank God for His steadfast provision and guidance all along the University’s journey.

The guest speaker, Mr Raymond K S Kwok, representative of the Kwok Chung Bo Fun Charitable Fund, Member of the Board of Governors and Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, Honorary Court Member and Honorary University Fellow, testified the faithfulness of God in his life path. He said that faith is crucial to everyone living in an unpredictable world undergoing rapid technological development.

Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, presented a hand painting of the Madam Kwok Chung Bo Fun Sports and Cultural Centre as a gift to Mr Kwok on behalf of the University, and expressed heartfelt thanks for his message and the Kwok family’s generous support to the University, including the donation of the two Christian mosaic murals ‘Tree of Life’ and ‘Jesus Washing His disciples’ Feet’. Professor Wai also emphasised the importance of remaining grounded in beliefs during uncertain times and the pivotal role of education in nurturing human values that truly shape well-rounded individuals.

Dr Kennedy Y H Wong, Chairman of the Council and the Court, read the University’s mission statement, and Ms Sandy H Y Wong, the Honorary Court Member, read the holy scripture during the Service. Student music groups under the Chaplain’s Office, including the Christian Band, Christian Choir and Mainland-student Choir, sang their praises to glorify the Lord. The event ended with a beautiful postlude played by Mrs Elizabeth Hung Wong, the renowned organist and dedicated supporter of the University, concluding the occasion with the perfect resonance.
