Thursday, 24 Jun 2021

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) held the naming ceremony for the Eileen L. Tsui Student Activities Room today (24 June). The event recognised the recent generous donation of HK$4 million from Ms Eileen Tsui Li, Managing Director of Nankai Transport International (HK) Co., Ltd., for the establishment of the Eileen Tsui Student Enrichment Fund, which will support the University's Project SEED (Student Engagement, Enrichment and Development) initiative.

The naming ceremony was officiated by Ms Tsui together with Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor.

In his welcoming remarks, Professor Wai expressed his gratitude to Ms Tsui for her staunch support of the University. He said that Ms Tsui has been very supportive of the University's overall development, particularly its student enrichment programmes. The newly established fund will support Project SEED, and it will enhance students' capabilities and create career opportunities by connecting them with different sectors of society.

Professor Wai said that in addition to providing financial support for the University's various development endeavours, Ms Tsui has also offered wise counsel on the governance and development of the University by serving as an Honorary Court Member of the University and a Member of the Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms Tsui thanked HKBU for naming the activities room after her. She said: "The COVID-19 outbreak has severely affected students' overseas exchange activities and employment prospects. I hope that Project SEED can help equip students with important skills and provide timely support to more of them. I hope the pandemic can be brought under control soon, allowing students' overseas exchange and learning activities to resume."

The Eileen L. Tsui Student Activities Room is located on the third floor of The Wing Lung Bank Building for Business Studies at HKBU. It has been actively utilised as a seedbed for the University's whole person education, and a myriad of activities and programmes have been held in the space. It also serves as a valuable gathering and learning hub for students, staff, alumni and employers due to its location in the heart of the University.

Guests who attended the ceremony also included friends of Ms Tsui, as well as HKBU representatives Professor Rick Wong, Interim Provost; Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning); Ms Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; and Mrs Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation.
