Commitment to nurturing talents

The University’s commitment to nurturing talents to serve Hong Kong, the Nation and the region has been clearly exemplified by its growing synergy with the Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (BNU-HKBU UIC) in Zhuhai, which marks our strategic entry into Mainland China as early as 2005. Our “One University, Two Campuses” initiative underscores our dedication to enhancing the exposure and experiences of our students. Under this initiative, I am delighted that students from both campuses are enjoying more dynamic study, internship, cultural experience and other exchange opportunities, which transcend geographic boundaries and promote unparalleled academic exploration within the Greater Bay Area.

Enhancing international outlook with strategic collaborations and impactful research

To enhance our role as a global university of impact and significance, we will continue to invest in our research capacity and strengthen our strategic alliances with international and national partners, both within and beyond the academic field. To achieve this goal, the University has previously established three overarching institutional research clusters in key areas of excellence that cover Creative Media and Practice, Health and Drug Discovery, and Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence. In line with our recent strategic focus, we are also venturing into the cluster of Humanities and Cultures. These four research clusters address the pressing needs of the global community and our next generations in an increasingly challenging environment. Looking ahead, HKBU will strive its best to ensure that our research outputs are relevant, pioneering and impactful.

A close collaboration with Mainland institutions and other partners is our ongoing direction. From entering into agreements on academic exchange and collaboration in different aspects including scientific research, technological innovation and technology transfer, we aim to capitalise on the huge opportunities associated with innovation and contribute to the Nation’s development.

On the other hand, HKBU spares no effort in enhancing its international outlook to fulfill its East-meets-West role. The University is poised to seize the opportunity presented by the Government’s initiative to increase international student enrollment in the coming years, which is expected to infuse a richer cultural diversity and a larger pool of international talents, further solidifying HKBU’s position as a “leading liberal arts University in Asia for the world”.

In closing, I would like to thank all members of the HKBU community for their dedication and determination in moving the University forward over the past years amid challenging times of uncertainties as a result of the pandemic and other arduous changes. Their support has laid the foundation upon which the University can grow from strength to strength in future.
