Professor Ge Liang, Professor of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, has won the 8th Lu Xun Literary Prize for his work Hair Cutting. He is the first-ever writer from Hong Kong to win this award.

Hair Cutting depicts the changes within the traditional hairdressing industry in Hong Kong over time, as well as the craftsmen’s beliefs and persistence. It also outlines a broad view of Hong Kong’s history and reflects on the importance of the value of history and tradition in modern society.

Organised by the China Writers Association, the Lu Xun Literary Prize is presented every four years, and it is widely recognised as one of the leading Chinese-language literary awards in the world.
