HKBU computer scientist elected AAAS Fellow

Professor Cheung Yiu-ming, Professor of the Department of Computer Science, was elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 2021 in recognition of his distinguished contributions to the field of cluster analysis and visual computing, particularly for theoretical modelling and its implementation in artificial intelligence. The 2021 Class of AAAS Fellows consists of 564 international distinguished leaders in science, engineering and innovation, including 2018 Turing Award Winner, Yann LeCun. Among 14 newly elected Chinese fellows, Prof. Cheung was the only scientist from Hong Kong, while two were from Mainland China.

Founded in 1848, AAAS is the world’s largest general scientific society with the members from more than 91 countries around the world, and is the publisher of the well-known scientific journal: Science. It strives to promote cooperation among scientists, defending scientific freedom, encouraging scientific responsibility, and supporting scientific education and science outreach for the betterment of all humanity. Its Council elects fellows whose efforts on behalf of the advancement of science, or its applications, are scientifically or socially distinguished.
