The Centre for Innovative Service-Learning (CISL) participated in the “BOC Life 9th Golden Age Expo and Summit" (GAES) held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 2 to 4 August. The event demonstrated HKBU’s commitment in fostering intergenerational communication and smart ageing among the community.
Echoing the event theme "Sustainable, Smart, Ageing", HKBU’s booth titled “From Service-learning to Social Innovation: Bridging Generations to Promote Active Ageing”, showcased a variety of student service-learning and social innovation projects. Highlights included interactive play kits for the elderly designed by visual arts students, body constitutions and health consultation services provided by Chinese medicine students, and prototypes of assistive devices designed using artificial intelligence technology.
Dr Lisa Lam, Director of CISL, delivered a compelling keynote themed "Empowering the Golden-Aged: Service-Learning and Social Innovation for Sustainable Social Impact". During her keynote, Dr Lam emphasised the pivotal role of service-learning in fostering student-centered education. “Our involvement at GAES underscores the importance of transforming the learning experience to one that connects academic theories with the needs of our society. We endeavour to encourage our students to engage across industry, academic, and NGO sectors to bring about student-driven ideas that are pragmatic and impactful, creating lasting societal change,” Dr Lam stated.
In addition, CISL partnered with social innovation student teams to co-host three Smart Ageing Workshops, illustrating how the younger generation translates innovative ideas into practical solutions that bring positive changes to society.
Organised by the Golden Age Foundation, the Expo and Summit gathered local and international influential leaders from various sectors to share innovative ideas and experiences related to ageing.
