Fifteen elite student athletes embarked on their study journeys at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) in the academic year starting in September.  They were enrolled through the University’s admissions schemes designated for elite athletes, including the Talented Athletes Direct Admission Scheme (TADAS) launched this year.

The student athletes, who are either current or former members of Hong Kong sports teams, specialise in a diverse range of sports, namely athletics, fencing, karatedo, rugby, soccer, swimming, table tennis and Wushu. They were enrolled in the first or third year of HKBU’s Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Physical Education and Recreation Management (PERM) programme, with their studies supported by scholarships awarded by the University.

Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, presented certificates to the student athletes at the scholarship presentation ceremony held on 27 October.

In her speech at the ceremony, Professor Chow Bik-chu, Interim Head of the Department of Sport, Physical Education and Health at HKBU, said she was delighted that the Department had achieved its objective of enrolling outstanding talents among student athletes.

“HKBU’s admissions schemes for elite student athletes continue to attract high performing talent each year. It reflects the commitment of the University in supporting athletes in their pursuit of sporting excellence and academic development,” she added.

Four Wushu athletes, Ho Yin-cheng, Lau Chi-lung, Lau Po-yan and Sat Pak-long, who are now studying at HKBU, performed the Wushu events of Taijijian, Nandao and Changquan at the ceremony.
