Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has received a generous donation of HK$3 million from Mr Alan Chan and Ms Donna Chan, Executive Directors of Tiger Enterprise Corporation, for the establishment of “Alan and Donna Chan’s Care Foundation First-Generation University Student Scholarship”. Each year, the scholarship will enable eight first-generation university students at HKBU to participate in outside-of-classroom learning activities.

In appreciation of the beneficence of the Foundation, a cheque presentation ceremony was held by HKBU yesterday (17 January). Officiating at the ceremony were Mr Alan Chan, Ms Donna Chan, and Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU. Other guests who attended the ceremony included Mr Anthony Chan, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, Chairman of the Chan Hon Yin Couple Charity Trust and Managing Director of the Tiger Enterprise Corporation, and his wife, Ms Cindy Chin; Dr Tommy Lee and Ms Jacqueline Cheng; as well as HKBU representatives Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning); Ms Christine Chow, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; Professor Henry Fock, Director of Student Affairs; and Mrs Lily Chan, Director of the University Advancement Office and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation.

Professor Wai expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Chan family for their tremendous support of HKBU over the years. He said the donation will certainly help our first-generation university students fulfil their full intellectual and whole-person development, and eventually, it will motivate them to give back to those who are less advantaged in the future.

Mr Alan Chan and Ms Donna Chan are the third-generation leaders of the family-owned Tiger Enterprise Corporation. Mr Chan is a member of the Young Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation, while his father, Mr Anthony Chan, serves as a member of the Board of Governors of HKBU Foundation. They offer their wise counsel on the University’s strategic development.

“Alan and Donna Chan’s Care Foundation First-Generation University Student Scholarship” has been established to provide first-generation local undergraduates at HKBU with financial assistance and guidance to help them expand their participation in diverse outside-of-classroom learning activities, which are essential for their future career exploration efforts and whole person development.
