HKBU introduces new transdisciplinary programme, transdisciplinary second majors and second majors on Information Day

Saturday, 5 October 2024

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) held its Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions today (5 October) to provide the latest information on its curriculum and admissions.  The event received enthusiastic responses with around 20,000 students, parents and teachers visiting HKBU’s campuses in Kowloon Tong in person. The admissions talks, which gave the latest admission information for students applying with HKDSE, Associate Degree/Higher Diploma and international qualifications, were well-attended.

Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) of HKBU, shared exciting new developments of the University to nurture future-shaping students at an admissions talk. These included the introduction of the new Transdisciplinary Second Majors (TSM) and Second Majors (SM), and the transdisciplinary undergraduate programme, Bachelor of Arts and Science (Hons) in Digital Futures and Humanities, from the 2025/26 academic year onwards.

“The University envisions the importance of transdisciplinary innovations in response to the global challenges and offers a flexible curriculum structure that is much more agile and fitting for the present and yet-to-known future needs,” said Dr Chau. Under the new arrangement, students will have the opportunity to opt for a TSM or SM on top of their major. This approach equips students not only for their careers, but also for the future development of their respective fields.

At the admissions talk, students and parents also learnt more about HKBU students’ learning opportunities and experience in the Greater Bay Area and beyond, through their studies at the Zhuhai campus of the University - Beijing Normal University - Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (BNU-HKBU UIC) under the “One University, Two Campuses” concept.

Dr Chau also shared that there is an additional provision of over 1,700 new student residential places at The Village CARE in the new Jockey Club Creativity Campus. It provides a unique opportunity for the University to develop residential education which creates synergy with the formal curriculum in delivering the best student experience for their whole person development.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, School of Business, School of Chinese Medicine, School of Communication, School of Creative Arts and Faculty of Science, together with the Division of Transdisciplinary Undergraduate Programmes, offered over 50 programme talks/thematic talks, allowing participants to gain valuable insights into the diverse range of programmes and teaching facilities at HKBU. Participants had the chance to experience the University's latest art-tech, cutting-edge facilities, as well as workshops and demonstrations in areas such as  film scoring, glass blowing, jewellery making, graphic design and illustration, Chinese calligraphy, as well as the chance to enjoy the impressive performance by the talented students of the Academy of Music, Dance Association, and Department of Sport, Physical Education and Health, Christian choir and band.

The videos of the admissions talks and selected programme talks of the faculties/schools will be uploaded to the HKBU Information Day website (https://infoday.hkbu.edu.hk).
