Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) held a flag-raising ceremony on campus this morning (1 July) to celebrate the 27th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People's Republic of China.
The ceremony was attended by around 150 Council and Court members, senior management team members, staff, alumni and students of the University. At the ceremony, the national flag together with the HKSAR flag and the HKBU flag were raised by the HKBU Student Flag-raising Team.
In his address, Dr Clement Chen, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU, remarked that Hong Kong has enjoyed a steady development in the past 27 years with the strong support of the motherland, underpinned by the solid foundation of "One Country, Two Systems." He said, "While Hong Kong and the nation continue to make solid progress, HKBU has also been committed to invigorating the country through science and education. We strive to contribute to the nation and the people through our efforts in education and scientific research innovations. We are dedicated to nurturing the future pillars of society, inspiring students' creative thinking and broadening their horizons through transdisciplinary teaching and learning that transcends academic boundaries. In terms of research, our research teams have made numerous groundbreaking achievements over the past year, gaining wide international recognition. It is also encouraging to see the significant rise in HKBU's global rankings."
The flag-raising ceremony brought the HKBU community together to celebrate Hong Kong's reunification with the motherland. HKBU will continue to shoulder the mission of nurturing well-rounded talents, guiding them to having an in-depth understanding of the developmental trends of the country and the world, and contributing to a bright future for Hong Kong and the motherland.
