Topping out of Jockey Club Campus of Creativity

The topping out of HKBU’s Jockey Club Campus of Creativity on 12 January 2023 marked an important milestone for its construction work, which is due to be completed in 2024. The University received a HK$452 million donation from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust to support the development of the campus, which is the largest single donation ever received by HKBU. Upon its completion, the campus will provide residential places and house the Jockey Club Creative Hub, which will feature state-of-the-art facilities for music, film, television, video games and other creative disciplines.

Two years in a row, the Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra blended art and innovation with artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies at its Annual Gala Concert, providing the audience with immersive cross-media performances. The concerts showcased the artistic prowess of HKBU’s student musicians and the University’s dedication to inspiring creativity and fostering artistic excellence.

 

Visits by representatives of the National Ministry of Education and other delegations

Ms Liu Jin, Director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs and Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges; Mr Shu Gangbo, Deputy Director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs; and Ms Zhang Meng, Researcher of the National Ministry of Education, together with Mr Zheng Yue, Director of the China Education Exchange (Hong Kong) Centre, visited HKBU on 13 April 2023 for an exchange with representatives of the University.

Mr Ho Iat-seng, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, visited HKBU’s Centre for Chinese Herbal Medicine Drug Development on 25 February 2023 to learn more about the Centre’s research projects and laboratory facilities, and discuss the sector with HKBU representatives.

An 18-member delegation of the University Grants Committee visited HKBU on 18 May 2023 to understand the latest development and achievements of the University, and to exchange views with the HKBU community on the education, research and other endeavours of the University.

A showcase of excellence in art tech, space exploration and science

HKBU showcased its excellence in art tech, initiatives in space exploration, and achievements in other frontiers of science at the InnoCarnival 2022, held from 22 to 30 October 2022 at the Hong Kong Science Park. Themed “Innovation & Technology empower our dreams”, the Carnival was organised by the Innovation and Technology Commission of the Hong Kong SAR, with a goal to promote an Innovation and Technology culture in the community.

 

HKBU hosts international conference to explore the future of business education

HKBU hosted the 10th Biennial International Association for Chinese Management Research Conference from 14 to 18 June 2023 on the University’s campus. Themed “Globalisation in Flux: China and the World”, the Conference was attended by nearly 2,000 scholars and experts from around the world to share the latest research and exchange views on Chinese management and organisations under continuous change in globalisation.

 

HKBU confers Honorary Doctoral Degrees

At the Commencement and Honorary Doctoral Degree Conferment Ceremony held on 21 November 2022, HKBU conferred honorary doctoral degrees to four distinguished persons. Professor Anil Kumar Jain and Professor Timothy John Mitchison received the degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa. Dr Chloe Suen Yin-wah received the degree of Doctor of Humanities, honoris causa. Dr Olga Nawoja Tokarczuk received the degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa.

 

HKBU confers Honorary University Fellowships

At the 17th Honorary University Fellowship Conferment Ceremony held on 23 September 2022, HKBU conferred Honorary University Fellowships upon three distinguished persons, namely Dr Tisa Ho Kar-kuan, Mr Edward Lui and Ms Yao Jue, in recognition of their significant contributions to society and staunch support of the University.

HKBU appoints three endowed professors

At the Inauguration Ceremony of Endowed Professorships held on 4 August 2022, HKBU conferred Endowed Professorship titles on three distinguished scholars, namely Professor Gary Wong Ka-leung, Dr Mok Man Hung Endowed Professor in Chemistry; Professor Ken Yung Kin-lam, Ma Pak Leung Endowed Professor in Innovative Neuromedicine; and Professor Chan King-cheung, Raymond R Wong Endowed Professor in Media Ethics. The Endowed Professorships were established with the respective support of the donors of the Dr Mok Man Hung Endowed Professor in Chemistry, Ma Pak Leung Company Limited and Professor Raymond R Wong.

Novelist Kan Yao-ming wins Dream of the Red Chamber Award

In August 2022, esteemed novelist Mr Kan Yao-ming was awarded the first prize of HKBU’s 9th Dream of the Red Chamber Award: The World’s Distinguished Novel in Chinese, for his novel Becoming Bunun. The Dream of the Red Chamber Award, held biennially by the Faculty of Arts, aims to encourage the publication of excellent Chinese novels and recognise the outstanding work by Chinese novel writers from around the world.
