Mr Ivan Wong Siu-kei is a distinguished business and community leader whose influence spans public governance, energy infrastructure, commercial associations, education and training, social welfare, as well as sports and culture. He has consistently served the community, dedicated himself to youth development, and maintained an unshakeable belief in building a better society together, making significant contributions to the sustainable development of Hong Kong and the nation.

Mr Wong is currently the Vice Chairman of Kum Shing Group, a leading enterprise in Hong Kong’s energy, transportation, and infrastructure sectors. For over six decades, the Group has contributed to shaping Hong Kong into one of the world’s most efficient cities. Mr Wong fully recognises that sustainable and cost-effective energy serves as both a competitive edge and the cornerstone of development, and his ability to integrate business acumen with a forward-looking vision for national development needs stands as a testament to his strategic brilliance, thoughtful deliberation, and profound sense of patriotism and responsibility.

Over the years, Mr Wong has actively devoted himself to public and community service. He currently serves in several positions, such as Member of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Standing Committee Member of The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong, and Chairman of its Education and Training Committee, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong United Foundation (a non-profit think tank), Director of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Director of The Football Association of Hong Kong, China, and Council Member of the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre. He has actively promoted the integration of Hong Kong’s commercial and educational sectors into national development strategies, while deepening the synergistic development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). In recognition of his outstanding contributions, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region appointed him as Justice of the Peace in 2021.

Mr Wong’s philosophy of success lies in mutual benefit and collective growth. He adheres to this belief in both his life and career, while practising the personal principle of “treating others with sincerity and upholding strict self-discipline” — always demonstrating respect and generosity toward others while prioritising self-cultivation and moral integrity for himself. Meanwhile, he places immense value on lifelong learning and leads by example. He is currently pursuing an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) degree at Tsinghua University, conducting in-depth research on financial and economic opportunities along the Belt and Road region to reinforce Hong Kong’s vital role in the nation’s “bringing in and going global” strategy.

Since 2018, Mr Wong has extended his vision beyond his family business to actively champion the development of Hong Kong and the nation. He pays particular attention to education and infrastructure development in the GBA, countries and regions along the Belt and Road, and border provinces in the Chinese Mainland, such as Tibet and Xinjiang. He has also taken on the important mission of promoting the image of Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland to the international community. By leveraging digital and social media platforms, he presents an authentic, multifaceted narrative of China to the world. He believes that Hong Kong possesses both the need and the ideal conditions to tell the stories of China and “One Country, Two Systems” effectively, thereby fostering cultural and humanistic exchanges between China and the world.

For many years, Mr Wong has established scholarships through the “Wong Kam Fai & Wong Kwok Keung Foundation” to support students at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) in undertaking internships in the Chinese Mainland and Belt and Road countries and regions. These initiatives empower young people by cultivating a deep love for the nation within them, broadening their global horizons and providing continuous guidance for their personal growth. In an era marked by a rapidly changing global landscape and an increasingly competitive job market, he encourages the youth to step out of their comfort zones, proactively align with and serve the national development strategies, seize the opportunities in the GBA, and explore emerging industries. By doing so, they can open up broader horizons for themselves and society, contributing the strength of Hong Kong’s youth to the motherland’s modernisation.

Mr Wong enjoys a profound bond with HKBU, stemming from a family legacy spanning three generations that deeply values education and youth development. The HKBU Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School (A-School), named after his grandfather, was established under this vision. In addition to donating hardware facilities for the A-School, Mr Wong awards annual scholarships and bursaries to outstanding students. This year, he facilitated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for joint development between the A-School and the Tsinghua University High School, creating a shared learning platform for teachers and students across both regions, with a focus on artificial intelligence and cutting-edge disciplines in China. The A-School’s celebration of a top scorer in this year’s Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education examination exemplifies its remarkable educational achievements. This milestone demonstrates the deep-rooted connection between the Wong family and HKBU, as they jointly carry forward the vision of nurturing young talents through quality education.

HKBU is the proud starting point of Mr Wong’s deep engagement in educational governance and talent cultivation. Since his graduation in 2006, he has actively served the University, currently holding positions as Court Member, Member of the Board of Governors and Co-Chairman of the Young Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation. As the Executive Chairman of the “Wong Kam Fai & Wong Kwok Keung Foundation”, he has generously donated to and fully supported HKBU’s “One University, Two Campuses” initiative, promoting meaningful interactions between students in Hong Kong and Zhuhai through resource sharing. In his view, HKBU places a strong emphasis on whole person education. The University’s strength in transdisciplinary education, combined with its commitment to research and innovation, ensures that students’ learning outcomes effectively address evolving societal needs, equipping students with technological literacy while fostering independent and critical thinking.

Mr Ivan Wong Siu-kei is a visionary community leader and a passionate mentor in youth education. HKBU is delighted to confer the title of Honorary University Fellow upon Mr Wong in recognition of his outstanding professional achievements and selfless contribution. His accomplishments embody the core values and beliefs of HKBU, and his positive impact on Hong Kong and the nation will surely inspire generations to come.
