Mr So Wing Kin is an alumnus of the Hong Kong Baptist University. He graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering of Hong Kong Baptist College in 1979, and obtained his Master’s Degree from the Department of Engineering at University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom in 1980.
From 1980 to 1985, Mr So served as Geotechnical Engineer first at MAA Engineering Consultants (HK) Limited and later at P&T Architects and Engineers Limited, where he was engaged in engineering designs and project management works. From 1985 to 1986, he was stationed in Singapore as Geotechnical Engineer for SMRT Trains Limited, where he took up design and supervisory roles for the engineering works of the MRT. In 1986, he returned to Hong Kong and served as Chief Engineer at the Hong Kong branch of the US-based Dames & Moore. In this capacity, he oversaw the construction works of three train stations of the Taipei Metro and the design of cut-and-cover tunnels; he was also involved in the design and management of civil engineering projects in Hong Kong. In 1989, he joined the Board of Directors of Grand Success Construction Engineering Limited and oversaw the company’s various projects in the area of infrastructure works, site levelling, construction works, and others. During 1992 to 1997, as Director of In Yam Development Limited—a subsidiary of Sun Hung Kai Property Limited—Mr So consulted on Sun Hung Kai’s development projects, leading a team of urban planners, architects, landscapers and engineers on research and design initiatives. In the early 1990s, he also consulted on the municipal planning and construction works of the city of Guangzhou.
Since 1997, Mr So has been Managing Director of Glad Link Properties Limited, which is involved in the real estate business in Hong Kong. He has been a private consultant to Dr Walter Kwok of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited since 2009, helping the latter explore the Mainland market.
Mr So is Chartered Engineer of the Engineering Council of the UK, a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers of the UK, and a member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. He was a member of the Board of Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service, a member of Hong Kong Policy Research Institute, a member of the Conservancy Association, a member of the Building Committee of Redevelopment of Pooi To Middle School, and Director of China Real Estate Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong Chapter Limited. He is now the Visiting Professor at Wenshan institute of Yunnan, a member of The Hong Kong Chinese Christian Churches Union Committee, Director of Culture Regeneration Research Society, and Advisor of Redevelopment of the Kowloon City Baptist Church. He is also Honorary Citizen of Wenshan City of Yunnan County. Mr So has supported more than 20 students in Peking University and 30 secondary students in Yunnan. He has also supported the building of two primary schools and two small hospitals in China.
Mr So has always harboured great concerns for the development of his alma mater. He is Honorary Trustee of the Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation, and was a member of the Chaplain’s Office Committee of the University. From 1995 to 2012, he has made numerous donations to the University cumulating to more than HK$2 million, contributing to the developments of the campus, campus evangelism, the Century Club and the Daniel and Kitty Tse Visiting Professorship Scheme. Since 2008, he has been the Vice-Chairman of the Organising Committee of the HKBU Golf Day.
Mr So Wing Kin has exemplified distinguished dedication to social service and impressive personal achievements, as well as his unreserved commitment to the various undertakings of the University.
