Associate Vice-President (Curriculum and Pedagogies)
Professor Kwok Wai Luen is currently Professor of Academy of Chinese, History, Religion and Philosophy, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and Director of General Education. As Associate Vice-President (Curriculum and Pedagogies), Professor Kwok heads the revamp of the University Core and General Education programme. He also guides the expansion of solution-based learning and the adoption of authentic assessment in the University.
Since joining HKBU in 2012, he has held several key administrative positions, including Associate Dean of Arts (2021-22) and Head of Department of Religion and Philosophy (2022-24). His outstanding contributions to the University have been recognised through the President's Award for Outstanding Performance in Service (2024) and the President's Award for Outstanding Performance in Teaching (2018).
Professor Kwok's current research interests include the history of Christianity in China, Christian theology, and peace studies. He has secured three consecutive three-year grants from the General Research Fund of the Research Grant Council, alongside substantial external funding. Professor Kwok has been appointed as visiting scholar at prestigious international institutions, including King's College London, Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, University of Edinburgh, University of Oxford, and Duke University.
In addition to his academic work, Professor Kwok actively engages with the community and public service. He serves as a Council Member of the Northeast Asia Reconciliation Initiative, and a member of the Curriculum Development Council of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority Committee on Ethics and Religious Studies of the Education Bureau. He also served as the President of the Society for the Study of the History of Christianity in China from 2018 to 2020.
