Professor Huang Yu received his PhD in Media and Communication from the University of Westminster in the UK in 1993 and joined HKBU in 1994 as Lecturer in the Department of Journalism. He then advanced through the years to Professorship. Professor Huang was Head of the Department of Journalism from 2006 to 2011. He served as Associate Dean of Communication for two years, before taking up the Acting Deanship in September 2012. He was appointed as Dean of Communication in April 2013. Between 2011 and 2013, he also served as Executive Associate Dean of Graduate School.

Professor Huang’s enthusiasm and commitment to serving the Department of Journalism, the School of Communication, the Graduate School and the University over the years earned him the President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Service in 2011.

Professor Huang is an expert in media education with a good research record. He has published more than 100 publications in the field of media and communication. Professor Huang is a dedicated teacher and always places students at the centre of his concerns. He also shares his expertise with the professional community and the wider public through public lectures and media interviews.
