HKBU Foundation held a Thanksgiving Reception yesterday (28 February) to celebrate its fourth anniversary and to show appreciation to its supporters. Around 80 members of the Foundation, donors, alumni and friends of HKBU attended the Reception.

In his speech, Mr. Wilfred Wong, Chairman of the HKBU Foundation, expressed his gratitude to the community for their enthusiastic support to the University. He was delighted that the Foundation has surpassed its set annual target of raising at least HK$100 million over the last year. In addition, the number of Foundation members has increased by 1.5 times in the four years since the inception of the Foundation, reaching a total of 339 as of late February 2013. Mr. Wong said the Alumni Committee, a standing committee of the Foundation, launched the Hostel Donation Naming Campaign last year enabling alumni to support the University’s long-term development through donations. The Entrepreneur Committee will broaden the University’s network in the industrial and commercial sectors.

Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, expressed his deep appreciation of the contribution made by numerous supporters over the years. With their support, HKBU students are now able to enjoy many new amenities on campus. Professor Chan said the University is of the view that the former Lee Wai Lee site should not be rezoned for residential use. The site is suitable for HKBU to build the territory’s first Chinese medicine teaching hospital, which the University believes would benefit the wider public in Hong Kong. President Chan added that the University’s students, staff and alumni will work together and hope to receive support from friends of HKBU and the general public in setting up the hospital which would allow the University to achieve its long-term teaching goals and benefit the community at large.

At the Reception, Mr. Wong and President Chan presented certificates to the Foundation’s Directors, Honorary Directors and Honorary Vice-Presidents to thank them for the support.

Guests attending the Reception included Ir Dr. K.K. Wong, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation and Co-Chairman of the Entrepreneur Committee; Mr. William Leung, Treasurer of the Board of Governors and Chairman of the Alumni Committee; Prof. Alice Chiu, Member of the Board of Governors; Mr. Billy Hung, Member of the Board of Governors and the Entrepreneur Committee; members of the Board of Governors, and HKBU Vice-Presidents and Associate Vice-Presidents.
